As suggested you could buy badly done stirks and feed them on but they always seem too dear and to much standing at a mart for meThankyou I’ll have a google might be a way too just get cash flowing for a couple of years too then start buying my own
It’s really the same for everyone with cattle they have a lot of money tied upThankyou I’ll have a google might be a way too just get cash flowing for a couple of years too then start buying my own
It always with cattle , their is element of gambling, arable you work out costs eyc and be pretty close cattle work it and then throw away workings and hope/prayIv not had anything much to do with cattle other than tb testing for 7-8 years so I’m very out of touch with values of things so it’s just hard too know how too approach this kind of thing
Smaller Herefords are hopeless to sell in Carlisle. Big ones arent too bad. I bought a Hereford x heifer stirk last year for £590 and although it has got fat,she isnt that much bigger now.Probably worth not alot more than the £590 at the moment. A lass up here does alot of Blues which she must buy from a dairy farm, and sells them back out at around 12 months and is around £1000 mark. She does them really well though, really looks after them.So if I had a 12 month old Hereford in my shed right now it’s worth nothing
Yes . There are some very buyable 4/5 mth old calves around ATM. They are cheaper than rearing calves .So buying in weaned calves around august September, too then move them on again in April when people start buying grazing cattle?
More chance of the queen giving birth too a healthy set of twins next week than me milking cows
Several starter farms in southwest sign up to rear calves, Calves are dropped off, cake/ milk powder is supplied. You supply buildings, milk feeder straw labourThankyou I’ll have a google might be a way too just get cash flowing for a couple of years too then start buying my own
Incalf cows with a calf at foot or aged cows with calf’s at footNot as such, I’m trying to do it without spending 50k+ that I won’t see again for 2 years and have too find myself walking around money from somewhere for the meantime until I start too sell
Lambs would maybe be slightly more in Stirling than that today , hope the ewes are as good as yours ......they were well short of that trade on Tuesday up hereSecond draw, not too bad either, slightly better trade than expected vs other midlands prices this week

Usually expected to have 2-300 calves.
Some seem to do ok with it and expand usuallystart a milking herd but a few have failed.

Ewes averaged £124 couple Texel x mule, rest mule straight of lambs not to bad, dearer than Tuesday £12-15 less than a fortnight ago lambs very similar to Tuesday and two weeks ago fully £3 average bigger the better at the moment it seemsLambs would maybe be slightly more in Stirling than that today , hope the ewes are as good as yours ......they were well short of that trade on Tuesday up here
I remember now Blade FarmingHave heard that you get one good lot of calves then a bad lot
Set yourself up a tb unit. Buy 80 beef calves from a large herd in 1 go from a shut down farm. Rear them on a machine. Get 2 clear tests and stick them in the stirk sales. Hard slog for first week or so to get them up and running but once they're settled jobs a goodun.Just too mix the price tracker thread up some more I need some help with my homework
I’v no clue about the market in this day and age so I’m a bit lost and most reports don’t really give much idea …
so my plan is as it stands too buy weaned Belgian blue and Hereford calves in with a budget of £250-400 I can get these direct from farm from a place I work at a bit every now and then.. then sell them on privately too a mate of mine who finishes a lot of cattle at 12 months old, what kind of money would a 12 month old beast be worth? I know there’s 10000 variables but ball park figure just to give me something too work with
Only chance of doubling yours is if beef goes to £10 kiloKirkby suckled calf sale in nov could be the way to get into cattle.
Quite a lot of 8 and 9 month calves there, keep them 12 months and double your money!
FFSSome have filled out a bit since I last handled them infact most of them have
Some are still perfectly serviceable I’ve never been too choosy but approaching 50 broadens the horizons somewhat
