That’s a problem for politicians and the supermarkets
here's another issue concerning the recalibration needed

Tesco falling out with myriad suppliers refusing to accept higher prices when it's abundantly clear that aginflation is causing higher production costs. Hiding behind the headline of keeping it low-priced for the consumer!

It's exactly how markets function; especially when you're the size of Tesco and can leverage your wallet against your primary producers - even those the size of Kraft Heinz, Unilever and Colgate.

Interesting question though do Tesco need Heinz more than Heinz needs Tesco? Heinz not being on Tesco shelves would mean punters going elsewhere to get it.

Exactly right.

Tesco are happy to run milk as a loss leader.....if they don't want the price of beans to go up they can put their hand in their own pocket.

I think many would rather stick with their preferred brand from another supermarket than they would be forced to buy a different brand because Tesco are having an argument.

It's funny how the article says tesco wants suppliers to hold back on prices by pressure applied to their suppliers, what do they expect their producers to do, have these idiots not noticed fuel fert etc have gone through the roof, people say politicians are out of touch I think supermarket buyers are worse, still when people are breaking into their shops trying to find food because there is not enough to go round I won't shed a tear for them.

Agree Supermarket buyers are worse but certainly not clueless. They know exactly what they are doing.
Most politicians on the other hand fit your description perfectly;)

You would like to think the buyers know if they drive businesses out of existence they will suffer too, surely they have enough knowledge of world supplies to know there is a problem, but perhaps they come from the same clever educated class of idiots that the politicians and media do.

There going to be very reluctant to drop prices.

When/if they do people are going to be like I'm not buying it now, it might drop further.🤷‍♂️

I mean it has dropped over £300/t already from the heady £900/
heinz should tell tesco to stuff itself

Apparently on July 11th all Nord Stream 1 gas flow from Russia to Germany is stopping. For maintenance. Apparently for 10 days.

Major gas supplier also having trouble.

Its not bad if you can cut volumes by 40% and watch prices rise by 70%.
