Anyone who has sold everything at the highs is speculating, in my opinion not good marketing and could go completely the other way in another year. A decent average is important imo

divide tonnage by weeks and sell same amount each week - i bet even that simple zero risk strategy kicks pool ass pretty much ever year

Hasn't Camgrains bi-annual pool over the last couple of years shown a long marketing window is not necessarily good.

Do all pool managers sell everything forward the moment they have pool commitment?

Pools are odd. Bad on a rising market good on a falling one. But then for ten years there has barely been much movement in the markets through a season.
I would not want to be a pool manager at the moment with the volatility. Atleast if you get it wrong on you can blame yourself.

Yeh, I have some in bi-annual, wish I didn’t now! A long marketing period at the moment is bad.
I wish I had put everything in the late pool for last harvest.
also had members asking for extra early pools the last two years which were provided but will not provide good results. We sold stuff early on farm, terrible idea it turns out.
Even if you put your stuff in pools, its still on the farmer to choose the correct marketing period.
Pools do get a lot of sh!t on this thread without anyone actually looking at the marketing period.

How about harvest it, see how much you've got get it in store then sell a bit each day.

If anyone wants to gamble, they can take Call and Put options to their hearts content.

No one can complain about the price available each day.

They do, but you don't expect almost half the pool to of been sold before it's harvested.
Agree. Although if things continue as they are I bet you would be pleased if half of it was sold before it was harvested. Rising/falling market again.
Everything is mad at the moment, but fertiliser amazingly well one day, sell crop terribly the next day. But you don’t actually know if they were good decision until months later.

Yes true, but that would only offset the missed opportunity on the season before.

Should be easy enough to use AHDB ex farm dataset to compare selling an equal portion each week ex Farm Vs various pools.
