Call me old fashioned or whatever you like, but i think its a massive shame that agriculture has been pushed down this 'get bigger and bigger' route by processors. Huge losses for the countryside and rural communities, large amounts of farming families and new entrants wanting to farm. Who benefits; people and processors who have plenty but still want more. It will not help farming's cause to stay relevant in the future, very few of the public want a countryside dominated by huge farms and nor should they.

very simplistic view, each farm you stop at, takes time, time costs money, especially at todays drivers rates.
Mate gets a 2ppl bonus, because he can fill an artic up, daily.
A lot of time is taken up with farms you can’t get in ,drivers having to shunt to get to the tank room door, farms you can’t get artics to because there lane is too tight . That’s where bigger farms pay because there’s a good turning area for lorries to get in

A lot of family farms are packing up because the kids don’t want to work
Four of the farms I previously worked on have been sold up because the kids didn’t want it
You must realise farming is a very dangerous ,hard business to be in
It is a regrett though that some of these businesses won’t look at some share system for the new entrants

We also get a volume bonus ,which is currently 2.4 ppl and a production bonus of .5 ppl if we equal or produce more on the same month last year

We also used to get a bonus paid on how many miles you were from the factory (the closer you were the more money you got based on mileage ) they did away with that for some reason

all designed to reduce haulage costs
drive 25mls, 1 farm fills an artic tanker, and back, how much does that save ?
1 farm near martock, they leave the tank there, just swop over.
