Lunch in the field, is it just me.

Is it just me but is having your dinner or supper in the field in beautiful weather not still a great thing, always reminds me of being young in the 80s with mum n dad and the guy that helped us, this summer has been a great year for that, a pic of Facebook says it all

Mates farm when we were kids would be at the silage. Same Tiger on the chopper and an array of Nasher's on the trailers. We'd pile in the back of the L200 and go the back way to the furthest fields.
Ham Buns Cake and Crisps and everything stopped for a while.

Changed to another contractor with bigger Kit and that went out the window... I'd often hear a 3650 JD mowing at 2 am from home and often in the rain... Doubt they stopped for breakfast let alone tea

I got called in to help harvest a large farm in North Suffolk 30 years ago. At one point we had 5 combines going plus Christ knows how many tractors and trailers.
Every night at 9 o’clock, fish and chips from Yoxford would turn up and a can of pop.
We didn’t stop, but ate and drank on the move until we stopped. Usually sometime between 1 and 2 am.

Never did fish and chips ever taste so good!

Battered sausages.

20 mins later Rennie required.
If you’re over 55, might as well ring 999 as you’re probably having a heart attack!
The pain from each is identical.

In 1978 I combined at a farm which stopped at noon for fried lunch, no matter what weather was forecast. I took sandwiches as the previous year was told that the frying pan was picked up from the floor where the cat was licking it.
Plenty memories of a squad of people working in hay fields having a tea break at 5 to keep going into evening. Certainly no fish suppers or Chinese carry-outs.
Some farms were variable at providing food when the threshing mill went in winter. My mother recalled one place where the farmers wife asked how the men had enjoyed the stew. One responded that he could not comment on the meat but the gravy was good.
