thats not a crash, there have been far bigger daily moves recently - clearly this was already factored in

its a meaningless deal imo. smart move would be to buy futures now
Do you invest in futures Clive? I dabble with stocks but haven't done anything with futures or commodities and wouldn't know where to begin.

insurances ……… not a hope !
talk at one point was UK Gov offering to step in as insurers... but that was a few weeks ago... ? In the scheme of Western military donations, what is putting a side a mere couple of million to cover the potential loss of a shipment of grain with an African crew... I don't see it happening though. Neither side will be able to stick to the agreement. Ultimately Putin wants those ports, though right now Russia doesnt seem to have the means to take them. If fert doesnt fall sharply too we shall soon know what the big money players really think about this....

Can’t see anything actually happening. It’s all words trying to influence markets.

To me it feels like the powers that be are trying yet another last ditch attempt to stave off the inevitable.

12 months time the world will be in an even bigger mess than I expected. The world doesn’t know what is coming down the tracks in terms of food prices. Fert at £750 a tonne is double what many arable farmers paid for current harvested crop. So the £300+ we have seen will be back with more on top within 12 months.

Added to the fact that this drought means there is no grass on farm. Many farms seem to be tucking into the silage they made only a few weeks ago and are relying on for winter time. I can’t imagine many are doing third cut silage now either so will there be enough fodder for them come winter?

Bumpy ride ahead!

It’ll be interesting. Heard on the radio there is ‘only’ 109 ships in port, usually 2000 odd crew and only 200-400(can’t remember) on those ships now. Sea worthiness is an issue too, been parked up for a while. Agreements are not with each other but parallel with other nations (turkey?) who is in control of inspection etc.
1.20pm radio4 today….. seemed quite clued up.

Could quite easily fall apart I guess but they are trying to build trust supposedly. How quick can they load a boat? It’ll take a while to not only load but also escort and inspect them out of the Bosphorous surley.

One imagines no inspections would be needed on the outgoing ships but Russia will be keen to be sure Ukraine are not backhauling war materials back in.. This I am sure is just a PR exercise for Russia, its about optics for the domestic population and those in other territories with an anti western sentiment. Russia will say look we tried but then collapse the agreement and blame Ukraine and its Western allies for belligerence.

Ukraine should export nothing, let the world tell russia to get out if they want fed.

Perhaps but Russia is very good at information war, they apparently have already been blaming Western sanctions for lack of grain exports.

Heck it's apparently all NATO's fault if you buy their line.

A journalist that has connections with South America said he was picking up the story from social media there that it was the West's fault.

Also Ukraine will be needing the money, don't we all need cash flow even without fighting a war.
