When did you last have rain. We have had about 12 mm in the last 28 days! And not a lot before that!
Nothing to measure for 17 days, but quite a bit the 10 days before that, including a 35mm 2 hour thunder storm on the 30th June and I remember a few days of 15mm either side. That has seriously helped the grass here and has kept the small stream on the farm going, when it was running dry around the Longest day. We have not had serious heat here, only last Monday really.

Anyone go to Exeter today for jersey dispersal? @som farmer ?
weds av £1700, watched todays on marteye, they looked a very good trade, would match weds l would think. What did surprise me, a fair few made 1,000gns, more than the starting bid, usually very few would do that, it shows the strength of demand.
Didn't watch many of the steanbow jerseys go through, not particularly interested, and been told, to go very careful, inside info. They are going to be replaced with hols.

The cows that came from murleys Penzance I thought were good buys.

Watched some online thought trade was easier.
it will be interesting to see the av, felt the 'better' ones, will bring the average up, as above, there were some very determined bidders there. Barren price underpins the mkt, and l felt some of the 'worser' cows looked very well sold. Only watched a few of the i/c hfrs go through, they looked easier, l thought.

Economics, would say, buy a cow today, giving 30 litres, for £2,000, its returning you £12/day, if milk was 40ppl, that's a fair return on an investment. Over lactation, 8,000 litres, gives you a £3,200 milk cheque, and you still have your cow, which, following this trade, might be worth more than you paid for her !!
