Really just want to get harvest over with now. Everything that’s left is drought damaged. Clear it and start again. It always looks better browned over here.
last year osr 0.8tac, sb 1.6tac and ww 2.9tac . know how you feel. Not sure on this year so far, will not be record but hopefully nearer average ( not as high as Eng pub average!)
Although OSR will be record as first year i have not written a field off yet

We’ve had rain pretty much every day since Thursday, 7.5mm since early hours of this morning! Won’t be cutting anything here for a few days now despite some wheats looking ready (probably still green in the bottom). Still some winter barley to cut yet as well but that’s only just about ready. Looks like summer is over though 🤦🏻‍♂️

Just tried some more spring barley. Looks mullered by drought but still 18.5% but starting to breakdown. Leaving it till end of week. Blustery shower so that’s decided it.

Well stuff looks reasonable, maybe lost a little bit in the wheat.

Spring wheats taken a bit of a pasting as it was only just flowering 2 weeks ago so a week of 32-40 hurt it, which is a real shame as it looked a hell of a crop. Winter beans have nearly lost all their leaves this week.

Spring barley early and late seem to have held on better.

Hi Tesla....what moisture today?! My earliest field (Firefly, drilled 13/10/21) has gone from 21% last Thursday to 15% y'day evening. Waiting to see if we get forecasted showers this afternoon, and if not start tomorrow.
Unsure. Gone to the dentist. Neighbour who cuts my wheat reckons his at the end of the week so mine early next.

Better get some sweeping done.

Same here, DrWazzock - this is quite my most unsatisfactory harvest ever since 1976.

Unfoturnately, 1977 turned out to be even less fun due to then having to accommodate two years rain in one.

:arghh: :arghh:

First wheat running about 9.3 so far
Wheat after oats 8.6
Second wheat 8.2
All properly weighed.
Reasonably happy with that but lots to improve upon. We are definitely under fertilising wheat after oats and over doing wheat after beans and osr. Need better attention to detail.

I seem to think ive heard that quote from you during previous harvests.
I know how you feel. Light land might be 'Boys land' but i bet alot of farmers on heavier land wouldn't swap as you seem to put a full years effort and expense in and 9 times out of ten the weather doesn't play ball and drought knackers it up just before the finish line !
With heavier land its obviously more difficult getting things established but you can normally expect a half decent yield for your effort if you get past this first hurdle.

This should probably be in the WTF thread, but cutting un- dessicated spring linseed today.

Wheat isn't fit, it isn't even sunny, in fact it's spitting with rain, and it's still threshing beautifully. And it's 25th July. And we are a cold, wet late farm (by local standards at least).

Bonkers.

Late wheat
Continuous cereal
1st wheat in six, after fallow
1st wheat after grass, no plough.

It feels like posts on this thread are coming from a different country. We finished wheat on Tuesday- all in below 15%. We’ve had 58.5mm since March 16th. The 0.5mm was the only measurable rain in July. OSR very good, second wheats ok & first wheats pretty good. Our land always does better in a dry year.

Starting WB today. Co Antrim NI. Burned off Monday week ago. Heads broken, but not biting hard. Will be lucky if moisture starts with a 1. Weather turning on Friday night, and my combine guy is leaving the area if I don't go today.

Weight estimates later.

This block of 14.5 acres gave roughly 55 tons (by trailer load), while another 12 with disease yielded about 3t/ac or just shy of that. 17mc.
