Too early for planting OSR

if the area is big enough why don't you drill in 2 separate batches. do half now and half in couple of weeks. If you've got rain you must be west and probably have more rain in a couple of weeks

edit = just seen you're north. you'll still have moisture in August :)

Volunteers or planted?
Drilled after Triticale. Or rather the seed was dropped behind a Kverneland CLC cultivator in one pass and rolled tight behind. Its very light land and it surprised me its come so soon, despite a few spots of rain its still dry here. We were forecast a proper rain so we pushed on and drilled it or else I would agree with everyody else better to wait for rain. We have two weeks of hot dry weather forecast now and I reckon its 50/50 if we will be redrilling it in August.

When do you normally harvest your osr. Do you suffer with flee Beatles or pigeons.
OSR harvest is normally at the end of June and planting OSR is normally second half of August. Flea beetles are a major problem and completely wiped out our OSR last year, we are told early drilling might help so I am trying a bit.. We have lots of insecticide resistant flea beetles too and like you no insecticide seed treatments allowed.

Pigeons are nothing like the problem they are in the UK helped by the fact that two million Frenchmen like to shoot at anything that moves. If I told them there are a few hundred pigeons on my rape there would be about 20 people straight round here to shoot at them.
