Bud box YouTube videos are worth watching. Much easier to build. We tried a TB test with that design but the team just couldn’t get the hang of it.
I built a bud box, welded on hinges at the race end in case I needed a forcing gate, never bothered to make one, it works like magic once you get the hang of only putting 5 or 6 cattle in at once.

If your site is suitable it is cheap, get cattle to turn left if you can, they are better at that than turning right.

I use box barriers as posts cu them in half
Two posts , they dont rot .
I use them for all kinds of stuff.
They're holding several roofs up here, and have hung very heavy 14' gates off them, in a pen on some off land.

I should elaborate on my cedar 4x2 comment.
It's very durable, so doesn't need treating, and doesn't have such nasty sharp splinters as larch.
Not as strong, but hey ho. Breed quiet bullocks, and they won't jump!

If you use crash barriers just have the first 3/4 touching so no gaps

Having seen the effect on a dairy heifer of severing tendons on crash barriers, definitely do not leave gaps to save on barriers. Fill the gaps with lengths of box if necessary, just don’t leave gaps

In a race, the cattle will flow better if they can’t see through it anyway, gaps will slow them down.

Personally, I’d rather make it out of box section with Stokbord attached. Crash barriers aren’t cheap any more.

You can get stokboard in 5 feet by 10 feet sheets, the 4 x 8 aren't tall enough

Speaking to an x ministry tester the other day. In his opinion for his job the best systems he used was a long race against the wall and rails the other side with a catwalk to lean over and get blood out the tail.

Just saying because in my opinion OK for blood tests but if you need to catch and work on animals especially single handed then some of the other systems on here will be better if slower.

Rails on the right look too widely spaced for my liking.

They are the same as the ones on the left , 6 ". I chose that spacing , as they cant put a head out in that , and if they put a leg out , it shouldn't be a problem as will have enough of room to pull it back .
It's 10 years erected , and has been a gift to me . The barriers are a mixture of 10ft 6s , which were consawed off at the lap instead of being unbolted... I used them as posts .
And 21 fts , which were taken down on a motorway exit job .
It took me 7 or 8 years to gather them up , but cost was small . Maybe 25% of what it would cist now .

What would be a good crush gate for small herd,?bought a mobile system but gate lets it down. Works all sizes but doesn’t stay open to let them out which is annoying working on your own. Looked at Morris and Ritchie, but don’t have access to swing out as only 10ft to side. Might work ok but if doesn’t it’s expensive mistake.

Is it a manual or auto yolk your after?
Some of the auto head catchers are self reset so won't stay open, manual often has a gate in front in case you miss it first time.
