Mini digger insurance

NFU aren’t able to insure a mini digger I’m thinking of buying on my ag vehicle schedule as they are ‘high risk’. Any suggestions of who insures mini diggers and what sort of amounts you pay for annual premiums (this is just for use around farm - not hiring out or doing contracting work)?

Apparently I could if I had a full farm business insurance policy…but I’m just a small holder and so just have an ag vehicle policy and a home insurance policy that covers the farm buildings…and it can’t be insured under either of those. Tried a couple of other insurers but they will only do under a business/trade policy. Think I might just have to hire in as needed rather than buy one.

Mine came this week from nfu, just theft and damage really and £267 for 5 year old Volvo ecr25d.won’t bother insuring it as it rarely leave the yard these days with the white diesel nonsense and usually operate customers machines anyway.far easier and less hassle

Try an different NFU agency office for a second opinion. Some are better at interpreting the rules than others.

My 7.5t is insured on my Ag Motor Policy. I think your agency may have things a bit wrong. It would never be insured under a farm business policy.
I suppose it may be different if you are using it as part of another business.

I’m also surprised they insure farm buildings under the house policy. That seems most strange.

I think the NFU are quite strict with their fleet policies

Am I the only one that can't see how a mini digger is "high risk"?

High risk of theft? Rollover? Fire?

Plenty get hiabed onto lorry’s never to been seen again.anything underground would be classed as public liability as mine is,I’m insured to 3 metre depth but apart from treatment plants I rarely dig to over a metre.

Amazing.

Surely mandatory GPS trackers would be the go then.
I think the manufacturers rely on one unit getting stolen another is getting sold Theory.you can get trackers and I’m sure a lot are fitted.no tracker on mine as it’s in my locked workshop every night unless I’m 100% certain it’s safe being left.

It's only safe and sound in the locked workshop until you get there in the morning and it's gone.
