When would you expect to pay for a new piece of machinery?

True, but would you have much trust in a dealer that you knew had previously pulled the trick of going bankrupt and restarting straight away? I'd be concerned I was one of the ones he was lining up to get shafted as he prepared to do it again.
Yeah sod paying until its delivered apart from a deposit. Does work both ways though, what if the dealer thinks the OP is a bad payer or has a history of bad debts and wants the money before he lets it go. Heard a few firms have been caught by people taking delivery of kit and then bringing it back after the works done saying they have changed there mind. Nothing leaves the yards until the finance or money has been signed for or paid for now ive heard.

We've just bought a s/h small JCB digger. It was invoiced July 31st so that I could reclaim VAT before I pay for it.
It's working now, and I'm just doing the VAT for July :) Then I'll pay the dealer. A very good company to deal with.

As said by many, against my religion to hand out more cash than a deposit, until the machine is in the yard. If you have to, in order to secure it, then protect yourself with finance or a credit card.

Iv just paid for a powerharrow before delivery (iv stuck it on finance for a couple of years to cover myself).
Iv never even seen it but i know the spec and the firm is very very well established.

Surely the dealer could finance the equipment himself if he hadn't to he cash to pay for it?

Only fair way in my opinion is, deposit on order, then paid in full on day or day before delivery once PDI complete.

Exactly. Trust and goodwill has to work both ways.
So what would your terms be?
Does no one else make this type of machine , is it the only one available, why have the worry of it not arriving.
Importer passed my enquiry on to this dealer as they’re the nearest to me.
Surely @eulb if the dealer was desperate for the money you could do an online transfer in their office when you collect it.

Dealer is 60miles away,I’ve agreed it to be delivered to my yard.
Either put it through a finance co. or pay with a personal credit card. Either way is safe and if you use a credit card you may get some cash back.
Not sure about business credity cards, do they offer the same protection as personal?
It’s just over £30k,my credit card limit isn’t high enough,I don’t want it on finance, never had a piece of machinery on finance I doubt I ever will.

Fair enough, but you can see why some do buy with Finance as an Insurance. I have found it beneficial on 2 occasions now when a machine was not fit for purpose, and the Dealer was playing silly buggers. The finance company waving a big stick worked wonders!

In both cases, I could have paid cash, and ever so grateful I didn't!!

We had two trailers on order from Wootons when they went bust, we had paid £5k deposit on each one, luckily they had lent us two secondhand ones they had in stock……we ended up keeping them, they’re still here
we have 2 woottons here , 1 is 35 years old the other 36,
