JD 6930 Premium still viable?

Starting a diverse farming enterprise I'm looking for a mid-powered tractor that can do basic yard duties but have the capability of doing most arable tasks as well. I'm fairly set on a JD 6930 premium 50k however the prices are crazy at the moment. Proving the head gasket and ERG are changed has anyone run this tractor successfully for long hours and still have good availability of parts or should I look for a newer 6 series with lower horse power?

I am very happily running one of the very last 6920s tractors, it’s on just over 10,000 hours and isn’t going anywhere for the foreseeable future. Parts are all available with ease. The beauty of John Deere is that they have always supported their product for a very long ti,e after production has ceased. They are a tractor that is very hard to better on an average farm. Personally I would go with a 6930 but have Derv Doctor take all of the emissions crap of it.

Ours has 10000 hours and going fine.had a dervdoctor visit…no egr and remap and a loader on it too and still not killed it but meticulous maintenance and rad and cooler cleaning.has had its moments of repairs over the years but a good tractor.

3 x 6 cylinder 30 series here all in daily use a 69 and 75 both autopower on 8500 hrs both original turbo unsure about head gasket on the 75 as it was bought used .

The other one has had an engine rebuild recently as it dropped a valve at 6500 hrs but no surprises really as it's remapped before we got it and us in excess of 300hp .

No plans to shift any of them on

Not very the only admittedly pretty much the 6930 is the only mid power ive worked with and enjoyed it thoroughly, from what I see as long as gaskets are changed and erg is addressed they work well, seem to hold value as well. heard they can be fuel thirsty at times

Hi Matthew Still gutted we departed with the ones we originally got at Jubilee, Hope your doing well!
Thought it might be you 😆. True classics. The 6920/30 is a way better tractor than the 7810 was. Much more useable for there. Angus are happy out here. Just sold the first two bulls. Let me know if you want any help, obviously your making plans 😉. Hope mum and dad are ok.

If you are not pretentious about your tractors, you should be able to happily run one to 20000 hours with a few repairs ( tax deductible)

I bought a 6930 autopower last year, I find it very frugal. Has had an EGR delete by a previous owner, 11 liter per hour ish.

As long as you are realistic in your expectations they are a good tractor to run to bigger hours , don't be naive and think it wont give problems you will get electrical problems hydraulic leaks and other annoying little things . We have a few 30 series that do between 600-1000 hours a year and are all over 12000 hours now but they all need a visit from a mechanic and regular tlc from us every season.

Name something else comparable that wont need same or likely more tlc to keep going though?

I am not knocking JD at all i really like them and we will not be changing away from them anytime soon but some people are a little unrealistic on the reality of running tractors to higher hours. I think the over all reliability of all the major brands is fairly similar now and that how the machine was used and cared for has a bigger factor on long term running costs than brand choice.
