Just wondered, they seem popular in usa and canada, i know the market, and number of cattle is alot more there, but on the larger UK dairy farms, which now we have more and more, these cow tanks seem the best way of treating a downer cow, if you save just a few, the price and convience of having one soon pays off.

Hired one about 15 years ago and saved a good cow,2nd time it didn’t work.

Biggest hassle was getting enough warm water to float it.

I suppose the answer is to have thermostatically controlled immersion heaters to keep the water at a constant 35 degs plus a method of filtering poo and maybe a belly band or some other way to dunk and lift

Wonder if a fibreglass sheep dip could be modified ?

They sold a clip on heater for colder climates, finding 2000litres at body heat was hard work in the 1st place.

There used to be a vet / tech firm in Surrey that had 2. Main issue was they are a ball ache to set up and clean between farms when hiring out. Most cows that don’t respond to calcium or hiplifters generally need fallen stock.

We've found that if you have to lift a cow more than 3 or 4 times with the hip lifters she's not going to get up.

I know I no not a lot about dairy cows but there don't seem a lot of room in there for lunging so making it harder for the cow to get up on its front legs!? And i don't know how you would let a cow drown surely if it didn't look like it was going to work you would turn the pump tap off and if anything bad happened open the doors!? Would hip lifters and a strap on front be a easier way of getting a cow in there as well and extra insurance if the cow was to slip. Have dealt with a few downed beef cows.
