OK. Surely he needs that for feed grains as much as he does for milling ?
Not necessarily. You can still find the odd home for non assured feed grains but its dwindling and its discounted below market price.
We feel the AIC exhorts its members to only purchase RT assured but I don't feel there is a justifcation for this, especially as anything imported merely needs "gatekeeper" which itself is pretty nebulous. And again there is no cost for the AIC to do this, and there is no cost to the mills to do this. But there is a huge cost to the farmer both in unfairly discounted products and the cost of "complying" with something they almost certainly adhere to a anyway because of their legal obligations.
The lack of representation on this has led to a lot of anger with the NFU for never ever acknowledging this. Its why a lot of farmers don't trust them anymore. Sad but true but they had been informed.
