Yes we have a pump out of a rainwater collecting tank. Backup is a spring piped into it. Backup for that is mains which is disconnected.

Have you seen the kiwitech drag troughs? Had mine turn up here last week. Plan on moving it every other day so it’s between 2 breaks.

Farmer Roy's Random Thoughts - I never said it was easy.

I can’t believe he hasn’t been on a course to get a useless bit of paper. What is the world coming too. 😂

    Sucklers aborting

That’ll do it. Have had 3 abort this year so far. 1 after Tb test, 1 in the autumn in the heifers after being loaded up from their away block and one just before Tb test. Took bloods from her as the vet was here for the test and came back with nothing.

Just doing the lows on a new system is safer to fail than going in with both feet.

Really!! I have used the muck around the pipes. Works a treat where pipes go from the outside through the shed wall.

It’s very worth a listen even if it challenges you and you don’t agree with it all. Some good interviews and production is good on it. The Tommy Herschell double episode was a really good one to start you off.

Or if you are not too far away from an arable farmer that grows them. We have traditionally used beans in our finishing ration. Have used beans and red clover wholecrop this year. Now onto just red clover. Pretty pleased with how it’s gone.

    Holding number for child

If running them together with the same land and handling facilities I wouldn’t have thought they would let you. We tried to apply for another holding number earlier this year for the calf rearing unit which would be using different sheds etc. They said it needs a different entrance so couldn’t...

    TB frustrations.

Slaughterhouse cases are the worst for shutting you down. We have one middle of October. Was told we could buy in after the next test which needed to be done ASAP after the slaughter case. Applied for licence to be then told it has to be after a short interval test to be able to buy in. The...

Jeremy Vine on radio 2 - Lockdown walkers causing crop damage discussion

Wouldn’t last long around here with the hare coursing types. Would just give them more excuse to drive over all the fields.

Ill keep it in mind. There will only be one paddock which won’t have shade along the one side (middle of the middle alley). If it was going to be really hot when they were due to be in there I could probably just give them a 12 hour shift in there over night before moving them up to the top...

I was thinking of using a kiwitech 100l trough to move around so a water line up the middle and just move it from side to side to water the outside alleys. Then the same trough can be used on the other fields as well.

Thanks Pete. 3 alley looks doable. Positives shorter cross fences, virtually square paddocks on first round and easier fencing in busy times. Couple of negatives more semi permanent but not a big deal and mobile water line I would think run the middle of the middle alley rather than fenceline...

Water will be run up the middle fence as far as needed. With the main line running along the other side of the hedge at the south side of the field. Trying to get more semi permanent fences in to ease the work load in the grazing season.
