Having not heard much from the OSR growers, do we assume they managed to get it up and away this autumn?
There’s normally a heap of photos here of cotyledons with holes in, but it’s all very quiet this year.
Interested to hear views on good options for wheat varieties for 2021.
I grow wheat for feed, and like to focus on:
1. Good inbuilt disease strength.
2. Good tillering (helps fill the Claydon gaps).
3. Wide sowing calendar window.
I grew Extase this year, and it did "ok" (may have been the...
I’m needing a cheap old 4x4 to use around the farm for taking diesel about and collecting parts etc.
It can be really scruffy but would need an MOT so I can take it on the road occasionally.
It would probably spend 6 months of the year doing nothing, so only looking to spend around £750...
In the areas of the rape where the CSFB hit it hard, and the plants are small and pathetic, is the last dose of N worth bothering with? Those areas will be lucky to yield much, but I can’t work out whether those plants will respond to N, or if it’s just a waste.
I’m interested in people’s sumner rape establishment plans, given the issues so many are having these days with establishment, ongoing CSFB and larvae issues, the high growing costs, dwindling yields, and the pathetic final commodity price.
What are your WOSR planting plans for this summer...
I normally drill my SB mid to late March, and I normally put around 60 kgs of N on the seedbed which it laps up as it pings through the ground.
This year I’ll be drilled up by this afternoon and bearing in mind it’s a month earlier, and with cooler soils etc than I normally drill into, I’m...
I’ve just opened my Hypro nozzle chart weblink before the spraying season to remind me of pressures, speeds and rates, and it’s become a dead weblink. Planning some liquid N on my OSR and can’t recall which of my nozzles is best for 350 litres at 2 bar and 10k.
I’ve Googled extensively but...
140 kgs to date, with last dollop of 100 kgs about two weeks ago. Crop not looking massively hungry, although thirsty in places.
When would most people apply the last 100 kgs? At flag leaf, or a set number of weeks after N2?
I never really know.

Bought a 61 plate JCB 531-70 last year with 3000 hours and it's been nothing but trouble. Am planning on cutting my losses and getting rid of it before I get busy again.
I only need a handler for loading the drill and loading out wheat. I probably only use one for 300 hours per year, hence I...
i did some searching here for comments and recommendations about a seed hopper camera system for a drill. Lots of good advice.
Mine arrived this morning and the total cost for the camera and monitor (with leads) was only £45.
It took three hours of rigging up and now it's all installed I have...
