Lambing outdoors- catching ewe and lambs

Did you do any tests on the ones that didn't conceive ? Could it be a compylobactor issue with nieve stock ?

    Feeding ewe rolls to lambs?

As above lost two or three hogs with blocked urethras ( not my proudest moment) after feeding ewe pellets. From memory after doing the research, it's the high levels of phosphate in ewe feed which calcifies and causes the problem in male sheep.

Lambing outdoors- catching ewe and lambs

Most would have a dog anyway, sheep or not. So arguably little extra cost.

Lambing outdoors- catching ewe and lambs

I'm sure you're system works well, but what about rented land etc where the fences can't altered or a pen made big enough that the first ones in don't loose interest in the treats and turn back even before the last ones get there.

Are your Calf Rearing Vet & Medicine costs too high? One simple solution we found -

Best thing I have done for calf rearing is build " dens " in the bigger yard out of pallets, tin etc for when the weather gets cold. It's a coat warmer inside them and the calves can go in and out as they choose. Calves have done much better since I've started doing this.

    Farmers Guardian

Gave up the FG and FW a few years back. IMO all the articles are all written by people with a vested interest in something. A few lines in you can guess who's behind them.

Wildlife offer and capital grants timing

The wildlife offer doesn't include capital items. As I understand it the capital grants offer is applied for from opening in February to April 30 and go ahead is given ( or not ) within a month or two to start the work immediately. So I presume I apply nex year . Spoke to a NE adviser on the...

    Abershedder

I would be terrified that if I went down the shedder route, wool would come back into fashion ,and reach equivalent values to medieval times ,and pay the farm rent. Only half joking when I say this.

Wildlife offer and capital grants timing

Recently applied for CSS wildlife offer to start hopefully 1/1/22 ,would also like to apply for the capital grants scheme for fencing and hedges etc to run at the same time. Do I have to wait until next year to apply for the Capital Grants part as I am already in an existing CS Scheme which...

Pressures on now. Had a chat with the vegans on the way in on Saturday, as I enjoy a good debate ,but soon realised I was holding the traffic up more than they were. Anyway we parted on good terms. Am I fraternising with the enemy ?🤔
