Not sure how long ago that was but £23K would have seemed an awful lot of money for a drill when I started, do you think ELMS will make it easier or harder for youngsters to now get started?

You may think it's magic now but would you of when you very first started out with very little? Somehow I don't think so, it's the big acreage farms that will get the benefit of this experiment!

But it needs to be remembered that we are competing with governments who appreciate their farmers far more, we only need to be able to compete without one hand being constantly tied behind our backs!

This whole thing has been drawn up by environmentalists with lip service to actual farmers, it has so many aims & possible outcomes (most of which will never be achieved) it's pretty obvious that monitoring it would be an absolute nightmare, once you start talking of a spy in the sky keeping a...

Seems to me more a case of DEFRA trying to re-educate long established farmers when it might of been far more beneficial to start educating DEFRA employees to the real life farming world!

Sorry Janet but the flexibility looks to me to be more on Defra's side of the fence, whilst I'm sure we would all appreciate Defra's help in getting back on track unless they can now miraculously encourage slow growing winter barley in a cold autumn to suddenly spurt on then getting back on...

How can farmers plan anything when faced with statements such as "winter cereals are UNLIKELY to deliver", what the heck does that mean, either winter cereals do or don't qualify you can't have if's & maybe's when farming & entering into a binding contract!

The only way young farmers are going to get into the industry with their own set up is if there is a base payment (SFP) for the first 100 hectares & ELMS above that with a £50,000 cap on any ELMS payments, DEFRA talk of up to £500,000 cap on an ELMS reservoir grant is the most obscene thing I...

My overwhelming concern is that what is being proposed virtually slams the door in the face of any young farmer hoping to ever get started, it is primarily designed for large estates & Tory donors who will reap the benefit at the expense of the smaller farmer!

Not sure the hotch potch that's being offered bares any resemblance to what was promised before & after Brexit, I think most of us are old enough to recognise the fact that this is the most dishonest government I can ever remember & nothing that is said by it should be taken at face value!

Hi Janet thank you for your reply, unfortunately "no plans" doesn't really overly inspire confidence as plans as we know seem to have a habit of changing rather quickly under this government, I would only be interested in considering committing to a fixed term contract if it was confirmed in the...

Isn't there a contradiction in government policy, they are advocating reducing livestock numbers whilst claiming they are planning to improve OM levels, doesn't one require the other?

    Omicron in The UK !

Every single time they leave it far too late & then put in place the very same restrictions that would have helped delay infections if they had been put in place far earlier, by the time they finally get around to doing it the damage has already been done making these restrictions now pretty...

This government will slowly grind UK manufacturing into the ground by simply exporting pollution abroad & then claiming the moral high ground, I really believe Johnson is the worst thing that has happened to this country in over half a century & it's not us but our children & grandchildren that...

This whole thing appears to be trying to be all things to all people & is in real danger of becoming a miss mash that suits nobody, it has so many different strands all of which seem totally unquantifiable & has simply been set up to try & impress the general public rather than do any actual...

Considering we left the EU over 5 years ago & the Tory government was well aware of their plans regarding the Single Farm Payment scheme it seems somewhat worrying that DEFRA now need a further two years to perfect their simplified scheme, as far as I can see we do not know yet what we are being...

Morning Janet, could you please confirm that it will be written in the terms & conditions of any ELMS agreement that for the full term of any agreement DEFRA will alone police & monitor the scheme, you would understand that it would put a slightly different complexion on the scheme if we were to...
