    Coming Home For Lambing.

So, so sorry to hear that even if it is the only thing that can take his pain away. He'll be sorely missed - this thread was probably the main one that got me addicted to TFF in the first place xx

    De horning paste

That's probably where I went wrong. I tried to apply it directly and put too much on. At a busy time of year I didn't persevere, just squirted a heap of it into the empty Hornex tub and carried on. Will definitely try putting it on the stick first when this year comes around.

    De horning paste

Probably the fact I don't clip is why I can't get on with the syringe lol

    De horning paste

No scissors or tape here either. Just fold the hair back, stick a dollop of paste on, fold the hair back over and keep calf away from the cow for an hour. Used Dr Larsson over Hornex for the first time last year and don't like the syringe. Ended up filling a Hornex tub and using a lollipop...

    De horning paste

We've used paste the last two years and I've missed 2 or 3 both years. Second year I kept a note of ones I thought were polled so at least I know I'm putting the paste on properly, just not great at feeling the buds.

Can only echo what everyone else is saying. I'm sure you're doing fine with the woollies, but put your mum and dad first as often as you can 👍

    Scanning 2021

Do empties get scanned again with a later flock? Or what's the reason for calculating without empties?

    Scanning 2021

Humour is a big requirement farming in this area. Especially when southerners are over keen to share pictures of grassy fields in the middle of winter!

Going to have a Swale of a time! (I hope)

They don't have all that area but they've got a fair skelp and it's plenty rough this year. Dry summer suits that ground!

Going to have a Swale of a time! (I hope)

Not really had much chance to do much but here's a couple of photos from this morning. Will be in for a fluke dose next week weather permitting and a few lame and cloudy eyes to deal with but otherwise looking well I think.

    Scanning 2021

I did think of you when I read that. Much as I'm trying to improve my scanning I don't think I could cope with that many 3s and 4s lol. Although you did tell me Swales could count ....

    Scanning 2021

I'm sorry, but as one of my main inspirations for going into Swales, you're no longer filling me with confidence!

    Old farm ruin.

Great link. I've already discovered that the access(es) to here have moved totally since 1865. Only looked on phone but going to hit PC tonight and try and find out how they evolved.

diary of a comedy sheep farm

Hard to know, wee Nicky has definitely been more decisive than Boris with bringing in restrictions but numbers don't seem any better. Was about to say it's easy with animals you just shut them in a separate field or shed and keep them there, but then I remembered what thread I was on ...

Not too bad so far, just like a bad cold. Triple vaxed since before Christmas and hardly been out since then ....

I should add, for clarity, that in Scotland we're not really allowed to tell walkers where to go unfortunately!

diary of a comedy sheep farm

Hope you all keep well, Covid hit here yesterday too although farm and house are all ring fenced so I'll keep going as normal and just tell any walkers etc to f**k off.

    Mud flaps for Quad Bikes

I used conveyor belting bolted onto my.wooden dog box. Worked great until I got stuck in a really wet rushy bit of ground. When trying to reverse back the rushes pushed the mudflap tight against the wheel which (probably unsurprisingly) found enough grip to considerably bend the rear frame on...

    Auction v Deadweight

Probably evens itself out, but definitely need both options to keep either of them remotely honest!
