Well the barley I started this thread about still won’t get going. Establishment was good but I think because of the relative dry it lost its vigour whilst it starved of N. As it’s supposed to be malting barley I put 80kg/ha N on after drilling but that probably only got partly washed in over...
Well, I’ve rolled it today, although rolling it was like rolling a concrete yard. I’ll apply some Mn and a concoction of other nutrition tomorrow or Wednesday and see what happens from there.
Thanks for all the sensible answers. As for the people saying plough it….why don’t you go waste your time doing that instead of wasting it on a dd forum thread. 😂
The establishment isn’t the issue though. It just won’t get going now. I was wondering whether I dare roll it or whether anyone has had any success using PGR’s to increase tillering.
I’ve got a problem with some spring barley drilled with a 750 into spring wheat stubble on March 30th. The barley has no go in it, it’s all got spindly leaves and no tillers and despite an 85% establishment it still hasn’t covered between the rows after emerging about a month ago. I’m not sure...
Well my farm is officially on the market now. Non farming family members want their money out for health reasons. I have two teenage lads but have deliberately not encouraged them to be interested in farming as I knew at some point this day would come.
Doesn’t really do any hard work. It’s a utility tractor now, does a bit of mowing, moves irrigator reels and pulls them out and does grain trailer work around the fields.
The engine air intake filter on my 2000 MF6265 is getting sooted up. I’ve replaced the filter for a new one and the same is happening. The exhaust isn’t smoking black and the engine seems to run ok until the other day when the air filter light came on and I had to blow the spot of it. What is...
They haven’t covered themselves in glory over fertiliser purchasing this year at all. I was under the impression my early order would be honoured despite wanting late delivery. Someone didn’t know what they were talking about when they kept reassuring me, all was ok.
From what @Simon Chiles told me once, the majority of jd discs were between 48-52 Rockwell Boron steel. To get higher than 52 was difficult and not many manufacturers could do that. I presume that means the whole disc is the same hardness. Also new they are just over 18” diameter with an 18mm...
We have openreach/bt lines coming up our farm drive with the cable going through tree branches. There is an old ash tree, an old oak and a horse chestnut all at least 2 foot diameter trunks if not more and yet the last BT engineer told me that landowners would keep planting trees too close to...
