Sheep men are no different.
If lambs were £160+ year round, everyone would be putting more on.
Cattle the same - as soon as there's a hint of a rise, stores jump.
Skoda enyaq here - not exactly disco comparable, but largish suv. At 50p/ kwh (most I've had to pay on a longer journey) I worked out it was equivalent to a diesel doing 50mpg.
At home we're charging off the solar "for free" in summer and would hope to be somewhat less than 50p in winter even...
I have to confess to not having got that far yet!
The grass only system has only been in place since last year's calving. Looking at them now I'd like to think a few of the best will be fit to go before housing (ie by 18 months), but they won't be 400kg carcasses!
Experimenting with grass/...
Steering them in first week.
Though have 2 left entire as potential breeders and they're looking good.
Also had 4 cut at 9/10 months old that were either missed or didn't make the grade. Interestingly they have done really well since cutting.
Was interested to try finishing some bulls off grass...
Had them since 2013.
They do what they say on the tin. Easy calving, cheap(er) to keep cow that perform well in lots of environments/ systems. Have fattened the bulls intensively very effectively in past but have moved to a grass based system now and pleased with how they're doing with that too...
Agreed its a busy time. But I'm not sure any other time would be any better. Just got to say "right, I'm going." And make it happen. It is only 1 or 2 days. If it was the only dry week in an otherwise wet summer I may have to reconsider...🤔
But a brilliant time as usual. Thanks to all the team...
I thought you got rid of them cos they didn't fit the system?
The cattle are easy.
Mob stocking sheep seems to me to need small paddocks with full stock fences 🥴
