we went ahead and used uc4 posts, however I’ve since spoke to a couple of people who have used creosote posts with no issue.

    Missed a calf on bcms

Yes, so this is the problem. It just means if bcms won’t change it I’ll have to get some more tags ordered and cut out the old tags and re-tag the calves. Not the end of the the world just a pain in the arse

    Missed a calf on bcms

    Missed a calf on bcms

As title suggests a birth was missed on bcms last week, and we have had five more born since then - all been tagged. Is there a way to register the calf born last week rather than today, essentially giving it the correct ear tag number and moving the other 5 calves down one?

    Shropshire

South/east way here. The further west you go in Shropshire the better as you get further away from Black Country and the “classy” individuals that come out from it

    Potato Prices.

I’d mothball potatoes for a year and just grow an extra 40 acres of s.barley. But the old man says “this could be the year” so we are going to keep growing them . I can’t see it paying if prices arnt around the £200 mark next autumn.

    Potato Prices.

Got quoted £50/t for our marfona today, that will really help pay for a load of diesel or fert. Still have 100t left in the shed so looks like the cattle will be getting spoilt for a while.

    Dairy cows as sucklers

Exactly this. Our best cows are British Friesian X Limmy, which are basically easy care cows. Not one calf has had to be pulled in the last 5 years, very little spent on vet/ med and plenty of milk. Cross these with a terminal sire and you’ll get some cracking calves. As already said, fleck or...

    3m trailered mower conditioner

That’s very much what we have, we don’t have big acres but they are heavy crops on the fields we can’t put to arable as they are too rough or steep. Totally agree on having a trailered on the steep fields too, would sooner have a trailered mower slip down the bank than then tractor carrying the...

    3m trailered mower conditioner

Also you’d like to think the mower would still be worth 4-5k in 20 years time if well maintained. We do the rest of our silaging in house so I can’t think of anything more frustrating than not being able to make the most of a weather window as we have to wait for a contractor to come mowing.

    3m trailered mower conditioner

That’s fair enough, but in the grand scheme of things mowers aren’t too expensive. If we can make the next mower last 20+ years it wouldn’t be too bad.

    3m trailered mower conditioner

Looking for a new 3m trailered mower conditioner. It would be replacing a 20 year old krone, cutting around 200 acres a year. Currently considering either a Claas, krone or Kuhn but would be interested on people’s thoughts on other makes too?
