    Shearing 2020

Quite a few Welsh boys with contractors up here too. Thought there would be plenty still to shear in Wales.

    Sheep trailer make

We have had them for years. My 12 foot hauls two loads of cattle and 2 decks of lambs to abattoir most weeks as well as much work around farm. In fact hardly ever off pick-up. Don't really have a problem with them and I'm sure they are the lightest unladen on market.

    Sheep EBV’s

Won’t be many Suffolk cross ewes in this area. A lot of texel crosses but mainly mules and other crosses bred from smaller hill type ewes.

    Sheep EBV’s

The grass fed shearlings we sell off farm won’t be 130kg. And in our situation Charollais can get too fat if we work with the wrong types but the same goes for texels.

    Sheep EBV’s

Problem is different farms require different things. It always amazes me how you boys down south talk relentlessly about not being able to get an adequate finish on your lambs. In this area where admittedly we can grow grass, lambs going overfat has historically been more of an issue. I can...

    Shearing 2020

Definitely short bevels for Blackies, mules, etc , in fact for most UK breeds when fit to shear. Could use a 4mm bevel on sticky dense coated suffolks, texels, etc early season. Thinner combs and cutters for sticky sheep, keep your new gear for good open sheep. Never use a long bevel in...

Electric fence, how far through flex cable?

Can you explain what you mean by bolting the joints please? I'm sure we are losing power with wrap around wire joins here.

Spring crops are looking tremendous in this area but we never like to get carried away till the harvest is in. Harvest 2017 is still too fresh in the memory.

    Charollais sheep

Think you are being a bit harsh there Andy. Almost all breeds have a premier sale or sales of some sort. Any breeder who wants to do his stock justice has to have them looking their best on that particular day and there is no doubt feeding is part of that. However, fed or not these are still the...

    Charollais sheep

Talk with breeders up here is that Lanark definitely going ahead. Suffolk sale is in July so suppose that will be an indication as to how it will work.

Vermin and bird repellent bale wrap

It’s the crows claws when perching on bales that cause the damage here.
