    MCF in cattle

Yes i think it has a long incubation period after they are infected before they will show they have it, i think its something like 200 days from memory untill you can be sure the rest of the cattle are clear of it! In rare cases it can affect 50/60% of cattle exposed to it.

SFI - What % have or where you going to taking out of production?

Are you sure that is correct for all the options they have now capped at 25% of land area? As there was some new guidance posted on here late on Monday that suggested otherwise but the way they keep changing the rules aka make it up as they go along on a daily basis who can be sure what the...

What should the replacement for SFI look like?

Yes i agree but the problem is that the more they kept meddling/ changing the rules/ adding new options to SFI the more complicated it is becoming! And they are talking about putting all CS agreements into SFI and you can see what a mess that will end up before they even start doing it !

Sweepstake on straw bale price at xmas sales?

Yes not sure why so many are getting so excited with current stock prices as they are not really that good when you take into account the cost of inputs and which most are still going up on weekly/monthly/ yearly basis.

Sweepstake on straw bale price at xmas sales?

Cant see that as no end of farmers still have seed in the shed that will need to be planted this autumn and given most got caught out on drilling in Oct most will be flat out drilling early Sept onwards so will not want the risk of wet straw lying on the ground.

Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

NO surprise there! Just sad someone was gullible enough to give him free meat with nothing in return when/if prices drop.

What should the replacement for SFI look like?

SFI is a complicated complete and utter mess and not fit for purpose for anyone except a few large scale arable farmers. Needs to be scrapped which is what now is very likely to happen!

    MCF in cattle

Had one last year, They will not live sadly, no treatment for it, best thing you can do is get the knackerman out today and put her down. Carried by in lamb ewes but does not affect sheep just cattle, very rare thou seems to be more cases getting around now for some reason.

SFI - What % have or where you going to taking out of production?

Someone posted on here later on Monday the updated guidance and it stated that only part fields could be used for the above options but i stand to be corrected. Can you post the updated version you saw that said the above is not included?

Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

Is that the one that tried to guilt trip farmers into selling him hoggs worth £210 head for £175 head and also stated you would not see him for dust when the spring lambs come out in numbers and prices drop rapidly??

Sweepstake on straw bale price at xmas sales?

Will be at least an average of £150 ton delivered into the SW next year i can see happening, Would not be at all surprised if it does not get nearer to £200 ton than £150 ton at peak demand. Will be very intresting to see what the standing straw makes, any good crops with little water damage...

SFI - What % have or where you going to taking out of production?

That is the issue, if now any new applicants can only put 25% of a field of grassland into say Winter bird seed then its a total non starter on a practical level as you would have to fence off that part of every field to graze the rest, complete non starter and unworkable!

SFI - What % have or where you going to taking out of production?

Yes but how much will doing these things cost you in ££ to start with??

    New limits to SFI.

All costs time which equals money... And if they come inspecting 3 years down the line ( and long after that one sheep has ended up at the slaughterhouse ) and you do not have those 5 pieces of A4 for that one sheep all hell will break out and the next thing you will know is that they are...

SFI - What % have or where you going to taking out of production?

Yes but in those days you still had equal access to other sub schemes to cover the gap in payments ! The SFI replaces the only sub scheme that had equal access for everyone and which we were told that the SFI rules meant EVERY previous applicant could recover their BPS under the SFI scheme and...

    Barley beef

Waste of time for dairy bred cattle. ( unless under TB and home bred ) If doing Barley beef go and buy some 5/6 month old suckler reared bulls.

    New limits to SFI.

They are not regulated half as much as we are here, have access to cheap labour, NO Farm assurance rubbish/ no EA breathing down your back all the time/ do not get inspection after inspection and so the list goes on! I bought one sheep the other day, came back with 5 sheets of A4 paperwork for...

What % of winter crops not planted or destroyed

Not a hope in hell of replacing the BPS money on all grass livestock farms and its now questionable on mixed farms that have not already applied for SFI.
  19. gone up the hill

    New limits to SFI.

And there is no way Clive that anyone can now defend the Two Tier sub system that has replaced BPS which will severally disadvantage thousands of farmers due to the rules of the scheme being changed overnight without any warning! And all this whilst many mixed/livestock farms were still waiting...

SFI - What % have or where you going to taking out of production?

I think you will find a lot more farmers will be affected than they currently realize, not only the % that has changed but the areas you can put into each option, ie for any agreements from today can only for example put strips/ blocks of each parcel into say AHL2 and not the whole parcel from...
