    Electricity tariffs/Prices

Just had a 3 year quote with out existing supplier - SSE 16.19 p/kWh, Fits 0.69 p/kWh, standing charge £67.69/q (75p/day) That standing charge sounds a bit steep. We were currently on E7 at 14.6 and 10.9 Fits 0.62 and £27.7/q and decided that we dont benefit rom E7 Any other options out there...

    Silage additive choices

Hi Matt You dont mention why you use an additive. Is it to achive a rapid fermentation so as to improve quality or is it to control heating on the clamp face? if the second is your reason, the type of additive you are using is correct. It produces compound that can control yeast and mould growth...

Can you look at my Sileage & Wholecrop analysis please

Hi Chasing Ignore a few of the previous comments. Yes, your grass has a low protein and ME - an indicator that the grass was very mature at ensiling, BUT the fermentation is ok. The dry matter is high which means you have a restricted fermentation. You don't need a low pH to ensure preservation...

Any definitive answer to mould (yeast) on big bales and sheep ?

Surprised that you have mouldy bales if you are using 8 layers film. Mould is an indicator that oxygen is present, and if mould is present it is likely that the conditions are suitable for listeria to proliferate as well (it also required oxygen) The listeria will be present within the silage...

    older ifor williams sheep box

I replaced the flooring in mine with 1/2” black plastic sheet. Two 8x4 sheets were enough to do 12x6 6 trailer. I didnt bother with the hindges - just one length in each bay. Was concerned at first if it would be strong enough, but its fine

    Lupins

Lupins are for combining NOT for wholecrop! It has very fibrous, thick stems that will be rejected when feeding. Combined, the grain will have protein content and quailty similar to soya (but varies depending on the species of lupins). It a shame that we dont have varieties more suited to UK...

Can this be anything but Orf?

As title, what is this? Dosing with Tribex yesterday and quite a few ewes showing, probably over 10%. These were all mature ewes. Had dosed a batch of ewe lambs earlier and no sign of any lessions on them. If It is orf, does it seems strange that its on the ewes and not lambs? Its not...

    Grass selection help please

How do you say that this is a good mix? Taking out the early variety - as you suggest, as far as I can see, 3 out of the 4 varieties left are NOT on the recommended list for 2016-7 or for 2017-8 I would question the seed merchant as to why include varieties not on the list. Are they special...

Evening all, I’m using the iLivestock app for sheep movements and vet records and I find that it’s OK for that purpose. I’m hoping to use it this lambing to link ewes and lamb etc. It would be interesting to hear from those of you that are successfully using iLivestock for breeding records with...
