Looked a kirkly hall but they wanted me to sit in a classroom for 4 days just to pass pa1 which seems a bit ott for a short online multiple choice test..
600 ewes on beet up till lambing then on to grass to lamb.
Lifting excess to sell atm.
Is it worth keeping some back to spread in lambing paddocks. Or will they ignore it to eat grass.
4-5cm of grass atm but sheep will get on top of it by the end of lambing
Anyone made a crate or a sling and had any luck using it for getting sheep back on there feet e.g heavy triplets quads and or bad lambings.
Got cows back walking again with lifting them up every day with hip lifters but never had much luck with sheep.
Chears
Looking to the future post 55- 60, I can't see me continue to manage as a contract shepherd or employed shepherd.
No plans or wishes to retire but what options will there be?
Work beyond farming seems alien but I'm not naive to think the body will want to fight sheep into retirement.
Ideas thanks
Looking for a old girl to feed 500 ewes round bale silage through a bale unroller in a old low 100inch high shed.
There's a 2wd international 585 which internet says should lift 1900kilo on 3 point linkage for handy money.
Will that do the job?
Cheers
Did any one see the post about aberfeild ewes broken mouthed 2016 born?
Kicked up quite a storm much to the pleasure of some mule breeders.
Going through my own ewes today I found alot of 2015 born ewes broken and finding a correct mouthed 2012 born ewe a rarity.
For grazing in situ on a 10 acre rectangle feild does it want to be drilled for short rows or long rows.
Short rows means less length of elect fence to move every couple of days but will need a couple of rows or long rows and just one row?
Cheers
With a recent positive johnes result on annual health scren on cull ewes.
Looking for information on the disease.
Adhb have some good info.
Current plan is to not do anything until next back end when all ewe lamb replacements will be kept separate and given the gudair vaccine after weaning.
Then...
Have some old half round concrete guttering that's leaking with big holes.
The shed Is steel with metal brackets that are still in good nick.
Can I bodge the brackets to hold 150mm guttering.
Sheds 90ft by 40ft with downpipe on 1 side which 150mm should handle?
Winter regrowth very tempting to regraze but I holding off thinking it will help get the grass growing earlier in the spring.
But very tempting to let ewes back across it and save feeding/housing them as Early.
What's every one else doing?
