    Switch Mid Tier to SFI

What's the info regarding amalgamating existing Mid Tier Agreements into the SFI? The same options, with the same payment rates now appear in both, but the Stewardship payment is still one lump sum , whereas SFI is 3 monthly, making cashflow managemnet easier. Anyone any info? Great planning...

    Stewardship payment dates

When are we all expecting stewardship payment? Last year was December 6th, previously always 1st or 2nd dec. So far no Preparing for Payment update, although hopefully that may change this week. I'm not sure how we're all meant ti trust the RPA or run a business when their payment timings are...

    Permitted development

I have a neighbour who has a smallholding of about 8 acres. A few pigs, sheep etc, and we get along fine. He's asked me if he could rent a 3 acres from me, so that he has enough to qualify for permitted development and build a shed. He can rent 3 acres if he wants, but i don't think that's how...

    Stewardship Capital Applications

I've put this in here so more will see it, hope that's ok? I'm trying to get my head round the new SFi and Capital grants. We are putting in a number of new plots of the various grass options, as part of our mid tier agreement, all of which need fencing if we are to graze, or need the existing...

Stand alone capital grant / SFI

Anyone applied for any hedging, fencing etc as standalone items to run alongside their Stewardship yet? Wondering how simple it is to do.

    Blocked drains

We have an issue with blocked field drains, now creating problems right back up to the yard and the septic tank. We're on an AHA, who is responsible for sorting? We've done nothing to create the issue (ie subsoiling too deep etc), it's just happened over time. Any experience out there?

Network Rail wanting to rent field for compound

I asked a question on here a while back re a building company wanting to put a compound in our field, the answers were all helpful and we got a suitable result. We've now been approached by Network Rail, wanting to put 2 x 600m sq compounds in 2 adjacent fields, and have access along about a...

    Direct drilling CS options

We've got a load of CS options going in this summer, various grasses, bird feed, bumblee bee mix. All the land it's going in will be in stubble after this year's harvest. Any thoughts on DD all the options straight into the existing stubble? I'm quite keen to try ... any reasons why you...

    Bank loan repayments error.

We have a long term loan with our bank. They wrote last summer saying we could reduce our payments as we'd been overpaying, I said we were happy where we were, they insisted we should lower the payment as they'd been overcharging us as per our terms (I checked and disagreed but they were...

    How long hedge plants last

I've got some hedging I was planning on getting in last week/this week but the weather scuppered that. How long will the plants last in the bags? They're indoors and cool, presumably they'll be ok until next week?

Mid Tier Capital Claim - timing

I'm just finishing off some fencing and hedging for a mid tier, am I correct that as long as I put the claim in by 31st December it will all go through ok? Just clarifying it doesn't need to be signed off etc by 31st as the RPA clowns striking will obviously scupper that now.

    BT Wayleaves

A neighbour needs a cable replacing, BT need to dig a trench next to the hegde in one of our fields to get it there. A BT wayleave is about £10 per annum or some such drivel. The neighbour is a decent bloke, but should we have any concerns? It is a site we want to promote for development at...

    Mid Tier Capital Claim

Can you claim in stages for hedgerows, fencing etc? ie year one do half the hedging and put claim in, year 2, do the rest and claim remaining amount. I presume you don't need to have completed everything in order to claim, it makes sense to do things in stages as the weather and time allows?

    Cow hay?

In the summer we bought some hay from a neighbour , it was bought on the premise of being decent stuff we could feed to horses, however, it's more like straw and will have to go to the cattle as the horses won't touch it. The cattle aren't even that enamoured by it. I thought I was doing a...

How long for capital items to be paid for, Mid Tier.

Apologies for the repetition, I know I've read the answers before but I can't track the thread down. I've got some FG2 fencing and some hedge planting for mid tier, all of which will be completed mid November. Anyone know how long payment takes after the claim is submitted? Cheers

    C4 Post Treatment

    Mid tier hedging

I'm putting some hedging in and would prefer not to use any guards, they make so much mess when they splinter and break. The area is already rabbit netted so should be safe. Do you have to use the guards for mid tier, I've had conflicting advice? Any advice much appreciated

    Lively direct drilling conversation

2 of my neighbours were having a 'lively' chat in the boozer last night. A subject that's come up many times in the past, but seems to never get old. They farm at the end of our village , literally over the hedge from each other. One has gone the direct drill option, 4 years in. The other as...
