I've a cow who is a wee pest and sucks other cows. She's always done it... last year when she was a calved heifer I put a plastic sucking preventor on her. It worked until the points wore down and she learnt to flip it up and get into suck again. So this year i put one of the metal ones on her...
I've a water bowser for carting water to a block of ground with no supply. I don't want to drive onto the field to fill troughs so I'm needing a way to pump the water from the bowser.
What's my best means of doing this? Tractor powered? PTO, Hydraulic, 12 volt??
I'm needing my dairymaster parlour serviced - West Central Scotland. The mob that installed it no longer have a dairy engineer.
Can anyone tell me who would be my nearest dairymaster service engineers?
Thanks 🙂
I'm looking to replace the metal sheeting on the skirts of the feed barrier gates on my calf house.
Wanting to use wood instead - no sharp edges, longer lasting, able to bolt water bowls onto...
What kind of timber should I be using? Would white wood be good enough and long-lasting enough do...
I've had a couple of phone calls in the past few weeks - people spinning a yarn (I assume) trying to get me to send them a copy of my electricity bill. Which I haven't done.
I don't see what the scam is here. What would they gain from having a copy of my electric bill??
I've got someone looking to use one of my tractors for their driving test.
The tractor needs to have 'No trailer or attachment'. Am I correct to assume that the loader brackets on the tractor don't count as 'attachments'?
I sowed a 'herbal ley' of sorts last autumn. Took a cut of bales off it in June - mainly grass with plenty clover. The regrowth is mainly clovers, nearly 100% in much of it.
The plan was, and is, to strip/mob graze a group of yearling stirks on it. They have been on long grass for the past...
Latest milk sample this morning has butterfat at 2.39, it's usually 4 - 4.2.
That can't be right, can it?
Protein is 3.42, month average over 3.5.
50% of milkers calved in the past 3 weeks.
What could have caused this or is it a bad/incorrect sample??
Probably a silly question, but I can't see it straight in my muddled mind.
If I continually select bulls with a negative score for stature, will I get progressively smaller cows with each generation or will I get consistently sized small cows through the generations??
I've never had a quad bike before but I'm going to see a second hand bike at the local machinery dealers.
What should I be looking out for to see if the bike is in good nick and worth the money, and not a pig in a poke.
???
Would it be OK to use garlic licks to aid fly control for dry cows?
They'd be removed at calving, or ideally a couple of days before. So would there be a danger of milk taint or would that be gone by the time the milk was going in the tank??
?
I know there isn't a correct answer to this.
But-
I've sold some second and third cut grass to a neighbour. He's baled it and carted it away.
We agreed to price it per bale, so what price?
The value of a bale, less what it would have cost me to cut/bale/wrap/stack? Perhaps...
I have a small area of ground which I have rented out for a
number of years. This land has been used to run a business
on, not for agricultural purposes.
The tenant has asked me about the possibility of purchasing
the land. I'm wondering if there is a rule of thumb or...
I'm making some cow tracks and looking to get stone dust to surface them. Will it all be the same no matter what quarry I go to or does it vary?
If so, where would be the best place to get it from in west- central Scotland?
Thanks.
I'm looking to put up an antenna for a mobile broadband WiFi router.
It'll need at least 15m of cable to connect the antenna on the roof to the router in the house. Will this be ok or would the losses over this length be too high to make it worthwhile??
Are there any good apps I can download for putting in service dates for cows?
With 3 week reminders and calving date lists? What are other people using?
