The NFu created it. The response should not have been "oh well we think its contributing to global warming so we need to compromise and use our pet monopoly country to police it" the answer is "the scientific literature demonstrates that it does not volatilise a lot especially in springtime...
If it is about money then it needs pointing out more.
Farmers are unable to deliver more environmental goods and services because there is not the money.
Farmers are unwilling to provide environmental obligations for the retailers via GFC because they finanical mechanisms weren't not provided...
I had a look round once. I felt it was the type of thing I'd want to do a deal on with my eyes wide open.
Looked at some stuff and its an area where the buyer and seller my have different ambitions of what good condition was.
Not done a deal but just my experience. I'd be surprised if you...
Nah but lets be honest if they had been more honest about Red Tractor they would have had a lot more respect, and it has been entirely self inflicted. A bit of pushback on ahdb levies wouldn't have done any harm either.
You can only take the pee out of people before so long
Yep. Certainly dimmed my appetite for agriculture when you realise you have to give away a lot of what you've worked for. Never again!
But better that way than being unhappy
He isn't a farmer. He is an estate paper pusher with a lot of staff. He's not a farming representative, absolutely not one farmer is asking for him to represent them over Red Tractor decisions.
Well I suppose the policy was and is designed to support the environment not farm food production so I guess you support the slipper farmer?
If the policy was to support the farmer for food production as a condition of an element of farm environmental goods production then it would be fair...
As others have said he's not really a farmer he's an office boy for an estate with a diversification of getting himself on "boards"
I'm happy to prove some green credentials but the market needs to value it and pay me for it, no one is asking Blenkys of the world to advocate gifting this away...
Yes I'm thinking that's one potential argument. As is the one about protecting tenants.
But that hasn't been specifically said that is the reason, the reason is apparently to maintain food production "support"
What would be the logic of this?
It's fine to point out the flaws of SFI but requesting it is limited per farm given that is voluntary anyway is interesting.
As someone else has said the best angle for farmers on this is that we are prevented from achieving our environmental aims but also cannot produce the commodities cheap enough so can the clever people in the world suggest the alternative as we are unable to do either
Yes but the taxpayer has decided that they don't actually want to pay you so much after all now because the perception of value for money has dwindled.
The number of farmers I spoke to last year who were able to buy the very expensive fertiliser (as a result of govt imposed sanctions) because...
That honestly isn't where the vast majority of farmers in Wales spent it. It really is a lifeline for a lot beef and sheep farms and smaller family farms. It is definitely flawed but the alternatives are too.
FWIW the SFI clearly seemed mental from the start. Big money for legume fallows...
