There's a good chance that the shaft of the PTO speed selector has seized..
I'd squirt some WD40 type stuff at it. Then, remove the clevis pin from the end of the cable. Try moving the leaver in the cab..
Then, with a little hammer, try tapping the shaft up/down, back/forwards in the hole. Put...
There are NO ECU'S involved. One fuse, o6ne switch, 2 relays and a solenoid valve with some wires in between..
As a side note.. all jd controllers have a 3 letter acronym (TLA)
BCU = Basic ontrol Unit
ECU = Engine Control Unit
EPC = Electronic Powrquad Control
So, the PTO can't be run through...
You have the older style square solenoid and if the wire isn't plugged in it won't work.... However,,,,,,,, is that just a trick of the light, or is your tractor a little dirty?? Seriously though the crap around the solenoid will enter the plug cavity and prevent a good connection.
I would start...

I doubt that such a machine will count miles, it may have an hour meter which is the tractor/ mower version of miles. Take a look on ebay and see what mowers of any make have on. Then, go and look at it, shake and poke things. Talk to the seller and listen to what he says.... It's...
I wouldn't start cutting any wires and making temporary earths. I've never had an earthing issue with one of these. Do you have such a simple thing as a 12v test light??
It's very rare for a 6400 to have mudguard PTO switches, so let's not worry about that..
Can you put some pictures of the...

It's probably your potentiometer (fan speed dial) as you say. The control unit just pops out of the roof console. You can try a repair, or just get a new control unit from your dealer..
See if can navigate to ATC/ETC 005 in the Command Center, that will show the commanded speed for...
The newer the tractor, the harder it is in my opinion. However, with a bit of lateral thinking and using the search feature, it's ok.
I may find it easier having worked on the green and yellow product since I was a lad 🚜⚙️🔩🛠🤔

As a test, you can remove the coil from the differential lock solenoid (rhs of rear diff housing) and exchange it with the rear PTO coil (on top of the rear diff housing to the right of the top link bracket) see if it works then,,, 🚜⚙️🔩🛠🤔
If yours are both the square type, use a 19mm...
Just check the battery leads and the supply wire to the power steering motor. The 865 suffers more corrosion in certain areas as I recall. It's possible to read codes using Service Advisor which may help. I think it may also be possible to see the codes on the instrument unit,,,,, but I've...

It's an eco transmission. Technically it may be the same as a 50k, but electronically limited to the maximum UK legal speed for a tractor of that type..
Out of curiosity, does it have front hub brakes fitted??
N9w Then..
From what I've read, it's more likely that the coolant control valve for the DEF tank is stuck open.
You don't appear to have mentioned what tractor model you have.. More info = more help,,,,,,, (potentially)
Have you contacted your dealer??
