Just had a listen to John Kempf & it kind of makes sense to me that we are trying to answer the wrong question; how can we lock up more carbon? The question should be "how can we cycle more carbon?" Hell of an interesting listen, carbon cycling bit around 30 mins in.

Is there a way of trialing/testing/forecasting a new system? i.e. 1. If there's carry over silage in the pit then use young stock to trample some tall grass late spring & rest a trial area. 2. Put a select group of milkers on it cell grazing in autumn. Record milk yield, cow health etc etc...

Struggling to get my head round this one as well. If you had not made the silage but grazed/ trampled later to reduce your housed time, it means buying in silage, but not buying fert. maybe? Seems to be the dilemma of an all breeding stock system where you are trying to get end to end value i.e...

Paying £1,900/t for Whey (dried cheese making waste) based milk powder. At 200g/ltr = £0.38p/ltr if I got the math! How much is milk out the bulk tank selling for?
