Sheep with a thermal imaging camera

Borrowed one from a guy at work. Mainly to look at the house but I was interested to look at the sheep. Wanted to see if it could spot infected feet...Don't think it was much use as they keep moving and that changes the temp displayed. The ram doesn't look good as he got re-sheared due to strike...

I've been using a gas oven and hobs in my site caravan for years and that's fine too. Heats up v fast. Other factors....no family so...

    Ewes acting like lambs

They sure are acting strange recently. The other evening they were all racing in a group, doing the 4 legged hop thing...and generally having a ball. Just like the lambs do. Lots of jumping and head butting the last few days. Not seen them like this before...I guess it's the piles of grass...

Ideas for this doorway -barn conversion

Soon the insulation will have 75mm of screed on it with underfloor heating. Not sure what to do with the large threshold shown. It will be a cold bridge and damp for sure. The spirit level indicates where I need to raise it for a step. Likely to have stone tiles as floor covering... Do I put...

Get a mortgage before all planning conditions met?

My self build lenders want rid of me asap (long story). They want me to finish and get a residential mortgage elsewhere. I am nearing the end of the build but still have a string of planning conditions to get approved. A full drainage plan for example. Morta colour approved....Will these...

    Barn conversion...connecting tanking to windows.

Wondering how to make this junction. Aluminium windows in cotswold stone barn. Fixed in with concrete screws and foam. Newton tanking system. Plasterboard and insulated plasterboard will sit on tanking using dot and dab. Worried damp may get through between tanking and window. Join tanking to...

    Selling Store Lambs (un-castrated)

I have around 8 which are intact. Should I sell as a group? Will they be a struggle to sell? I can't keep them any longer as getting randy and need to keep away from the ewes...

So it's a small building. 32mm feed and underfloor heating in plastic pipe via manifold. Combi boiler, a few radiators upstairs, couple of sinks and shower. I'll be using copper. Just wondering if anyone knows of a good schematic to follow? Or just advice. Wondering if I need a filter? Water...

    Mill pond not looking good

So I dug out the 200yr old Mill pond which was simply filled with a build up of leaf/tree debris. Got down to lovely clay. It fills naturally as low in a valley but I now have a small stream fill it too. Nowadays (2 yrs since excavation) its nearly always covered in brown or green algae...

Attaching wood to steel RSJ..how to?

I will be building the bedroom walls along the big white steels. They are also structural as they give some support to purlins above. Engineer has specified 4 x2” timber in a fairly standard layout. My plan is to lay one timber along the steel and simply build up from that. I am just unsure how...

Dead lamb question (not nice pics warning)

3rd crop Mule struggled to push this one out as a leg slightly back and a bug single. Noticed the yellow tongue as I pulled it out. No sign of life. Milky eyes but perfectly formed. Pretty sure it died in birth. On a second look it looks like umbilical ripped off. Correct? Just trying to...

    Messed up my joists

So the joists were to be 400mm spacing. Unfortunately the hangers clash with the studding (600mm centres)holding the packing planks inside the steel. Gutted...looks like I need to use 300mm spacing now to avoid the studding. This means loads more joists and it buggers up using standard sheets...

    Treating 50yr old joists

Mid renovation of my Mill. The floor was fitted 50yrs ago but needs restructuring. Very good 175 × 75 timbers which were probably treated originally. Before cutting to size and refit I feel it would be sensible to re-treat them. Any ideas what's best? I normally use creocote outdoors but I don't...

Help me get this RSJ fitted

So I have 2 that need fitting. 300kg each. One end needs to nose into the wall and sit on the padstone. The other end sits on top of the smaller steel above the door. The trouble is, it will need lifting around 1.2 metres at one end to turn it in....if that makes sense. Really difficult. A hoist...

What animal has destroyed my hedge?

I planted this hedge with my late father. Today I found most of the hornbeam bitten off at the base and left to die. Gutted. The hedge has really struggled as below a road so very dry. What do we think did this? Deer? Badger? Rabbits? And what to do to save the remainder...

Fire Engine access for Barn Conversion

So very late in the renovation the regs man is insisting the fire crew can drive down to the building. It's 100m down a steep type 1 track. 4wd cars work fine... To do this I'll need to tarmac or concrete the whole thing and make a huge turning area at the bottom. Surely 20+k that I don't have...
