    Quad bikes - educate me

Never had a quad bikes but wife is now after one to ride in the fields with a little trailer for poo-picking and a harrow to work the arena surface. What should I be looking out for that will do what she needs but isn't too heavy/powerful that she will injure herself easily. Added bonus she has...

    Soakaway crates in muddy gateway?

So I've taken away some soak away crates from a local building site that were surplus and headed for the skip. Now thinking of digging them into our worst muddy gateways, only need to buy the membrane to go around them. Will this actually work to manage the mud or should I forget about it?

Unexpected PPE you can’t do without now.

For me it is shin guards, no matter what I do I always seem to scuff, bruise, or in some other way cause injury to my shins. Just simple flimsy ones work a treat for me.

PTO water pump without hoses, where to get them.

I've received a Ferroni ML20 PTO water pump without the hoses. Does anyone know a good online store for the hoses as I need a suction hose with filter and a discharge hose. It will most likely be used to fill an IBC from the river so nothing fancy.

Where are all the farm kids eventually working?

Looking in my family most farmers had 2 or more kids, yes Catholic before anyone starts. But with all the crap the EA, NE, scientists, and others are getting on here why aren't farm kids encouraged to join those organisations or start careers in research that can actually help farming. The way...

    The murder of agriculture

Was in Inverness in Leakey's bookshop and found this. Seems time don't change and people will always think agriculture is under attack. Agriculture will survive, some farmers won't but agriculture will.

Car tipping trailer connect to tractor hydraulics

Just want to check something. If I go ahead and get a 3.5t tipping trailer with electrical pump, can I change the hydraulics to use either the 12V pump or connected to my tractors hydraulic? My gut feel says it should be possible with some additional hardware like non-return valves etc. but I...

    Hobby farmers, who are they?

So reading posts on here the term "hobby farmer" is used and usually quite derogatory. As far as I am concerned yes I am a hobby farmer as it isn't my main income and I can live with or without the farming income. There are several farmers around here with seriously more acreage that also need...

Might get a tine harrow, more tines better performance?

So.I might be able to get a tine harrow on permanent loan from someone who isn't using it anymore (don't ask as they are a bit awkward about possession). It seems to have quite a few mounting holes for tines but only half are in use. Would adding tines increase its performance?

Planted my hedge last year, now what?

In October I planted almost 200m of hedge row, staked and plastic protectors to keep the critters off. What are the things I need to do this year, just leave it to grow? Haven't done this before so any guidance is appreciated.

Putting removable gate posts in concrete yard.

We are thinking of putting up stock pens in our yard but they need to be removable as the yard has other uses throughout the year that require a clear yard. We would need some posts for gates to be hung upon, for the rest we could use panels from stockpen.uk but I don't know how to sort out the...

Trailer for small tractor and car.

So my small tractor is rated to tow 4,000kg if equipped with brakes. Now I'm thinking of buying a tipping traile to transport some FYM, woodchip, and logs with it. Due to the 4,000kg limit I'm now thinking of buying a trailer that I can also tow with my car, rated at 3,500kg towing capacity. Am...
