Good on you. I know it's easier said than done, but there's no point in fretting about something you can't control. Mother nature does as she likes, always has and always will.

For instance the NRA used to actively maintain their right to access the waterways, if I remember correctly 8m from the top of the bank. The EA have walked away from this.
The local allotments have built sheds on the bank of one...
That is done where practical, but some of these waterways are over 40ft wide and need specialist long reach machines. Not really possible to use in the dark.
The EA sold their dragline years ago so they can't do the job anymore!

It's simply ridiculous. Waterways need maintaining for the good of everyone.
If left unchecked they eventually block up!
Regular maintenance won't stop every incidence of flooding but it sure as hell will help. Our area is pumped but the waterways are so badly silted up that the water...
They are a disgrace. Bring back the National Rivers Authority imho
I started a thread about this a few years ago. The EA have done less and less every year since they were created and now they do sweet FA
COP is more like £200+ in reality this year. Not many crops doing 20tpa saleable yield round here. 50% growth cracks for a start!
Then there are all the extra costs, buildings, grading lines, forklifts, boxes, electricity, the list goes on and on and on.
