    Easycare sheep experiment

I am currently buying in ewe lambs and not breeding my own replacements yet. Should I be changing my ewe lamb supplier to avoid anymore trouble or will the next man's sheep be the same?

    Easycare sheep experiment

Looking for some advice. Around 40% of my easycares are some of the best escape artists I have seen. Now, my fences are not exactly perfect but there is about 10 ewes in particular which just take the pee. What is my best way to go about fixing the problem without spending a fortune on fences...

    Watson bale feeding trailer

Anytime I feed bales through a feeding trailer for cattle they do seem to waste a bit more than in ring feeders but it isn't that bad. Sheep would probably be the same. If it's well made go for it imo. You will always have it and will only be dearer to buy in years to come

    Easycare sheep experiment

Think I could manage a bit earlier as I don't have many outdoor lambing ewes yet so plenty of ground to run them on at that time of year when cattle aren't out yet, weather could be the issue rather than grass. Wasn't much grass on field when they went in a week before lambing, maybe should have...

    Easycare sheep experiment

I have only 4 easycares left to lamb and apart from the last few they have lambed very well on their own etc. Now at the end of lambing, the lambs are starting to get quite big and some have needed a pull. I started lambing on the 1st of April. I take it the bigger lambs are due to more grass...

    Easycare sheep experiment

First year having easycares and outdoor lambing. Didn't want to go buying tups so just used a beltex and a Charollais as it's what we had. Beltex lambs have a lot of get up and go. Charollais are a bit weaker and wool cover is poor

    Lambing pens per hundred sheep

About 35 pens for 400 ewes lambing in march for about 6 weeks. Plenty of pens apart from the busiest week when we could do with about 50

Interesting, so keeping twins is the way to go then it seems

    Scanning 2021

I also wonder wether only breeding from twins would work, anybody any knowledge of this? I did hear once that twinning isn't very heritable so won't be passed on to offspring very strongly?

    Easycare sheep experiment

Currently have 400 indoor lambing mules and texel/mules. I bought 15 sucked hoggets and 25 ewe lambs to try over the next year. Ewe lambs purchased for £105 weighing roughly 45kg in September and sucked hoggets for £150 at around 60-65kg. Tupped half with Charollais and other half to beltex...
