    Any swallows yet?

Saw first swallow in the workshop on Sunday morning (meaning I had to remove the window so they can have free access at all times), followed by hearing the first cuckoo in the afternoon.

    Swallows 2024

Hope they hold off until this shite weather blows through, otherwise I will have to take the glass out of the Workshop window to let them back in!

Good idea or just more busybody control freaks?

I had a Trading Standards inspection last week where the lady noticed I had 5 pet ducks on a pond in the garden. She made a note of them and said she would add them to my records. So I won't bother saying anything more as as far as I am concerned they are now on the register ;-)

    Which conventional small bale baler?

I got a pretty tidy NH 376 (I think, might be a 276? would have to check) sat in the shed doing nothing. Had it over 20 years and only does a few hundred each year just for lambing pens. TBH now I have a bale unroller I don't even bother and haven't used it past 2 years. Always kept under cover...

    Recommend me a mig welder

I've had the same Warrior one as mx110 for over 10 years and it has been faultless. Bought as the fabrication place I did some part-time work for had switched over to using them exclusively (having previously had big separate spool 3 phase machines). They are 100% duty cycle at full power...

    Classics Earning their keep.

Not sure if doing this is going to help or harm the value of the old girl but I got fed up with the old hook end attachements and not being able to have a universal set of loader attachments. So I have cut off the hook ends and converted it to Euro 8. As an aside, if anyone needs an almost...

    HeptavacP

You just need to find a neighbour doses a flock around the same time and see if you can get the left overs to jab same day. It is very rare that there won't be a fair bit of wastage when doing 100+ sheep.

    What is a farmer?

A tough read. Felt quite emotional. Lot of truth in those words

We just dose the ewe lambs 6 weeks before the ewes and then do them all (ewe lambs and ewes) 6 weeks later (about 4 weeks pre-lambing. Do the same every year

    What is a farmer?

A timely thread having just read this article in the Guardian. Grab a cuppa and have a read. I think a lot of what it means to be a farmer can be found in those lines...

    moving a tree ?

I moved a 20 year old apple tree in my orchard last winter as I wanted to enlarge the paddock below it and refence the whole lot. The tree would have been left the wrong side of the fence. I dug a 2 foot deep square trench all round it about 2 foot from the trunk then dug a 4 foot square hole...

    Careful with card details

Hmmm, just off phone to bank. Seems it was a genuine message from them and I had been scammed! All sorted now. Seems a lot of it about.

    Careful with card details

Hmmm, careful here. IU had a text (supposedly) from Lloyds to ask if I had made a payment of £100 to some unknown company the night before. I hadn't as our internet was down and I was home. So I text bacvk NO as asked. Then a new message saying they will need to stop my card so rng the number...

    Largest Arable Field in England

I mapped this one on Google earth to be 320 acres but on various historical images it sometimes gets more cropped, sometimes less. Depends on greening/setaside etc I guess. Anyway, it is just to the East of Devizes if anyone wants to check it out.

    The Trusty farm steed.

My everyday farm truck is a 4motion VW van. Great for towing (up to 2.5 tonnes), and carrys all my crap inside with ease. I also use it as a mobile tent if I want to stay away for a night somewhere. If I need to do some serious off-road work around the farm like fetching firewood or a spot of...

    Land Rover 90 full restoration.

Lovely restoration. I did my 110 onto a galv chassis 11 years ago but also upgraded axles, brakes, interior and engine to make it a much nice place to be in modern traffic. It still drives really well today. And as it has now turned 40 it is MOT free and can be tax free from next April...

    Prices coming down?

Apparently Paul MacCartneys divorce settlement with Heather Mills cost far more than had he employed the worlds most expensive Call Girl for the entire period they had been married. Makes you think!

    Prices coming down?

Used push bikes have seen a fall in prices by over 100%. New bikes which had a 6 month waiting list only 2 years ago can now be had with 30% discount. Lots of big players in the bike market going into receivership too. Interesting times and is surely being repeated across the board. Maybe hobby...
