    Ideas for Battery Trickle Charge/Maintenance

Our handler sits out in the cold and with the current run of weather is needing an extra battery/jump start to actually get it to fire up. Im thinking there must be a proprietary item that you could plug in overnight to keep the battery 100% for the morning. Its not for me so much as anyone who...

    Roughly Speaking Rent

I have been asked what to charge for storage per square foot for a bay of open sided shed, for what is best described as agriculrural purposes. (My last useful knowledge relates to 40 years ago, and was between 2 and 6 quid a ft)

    Buffer Tank Leaking

We have a chip boiler 90kW and a 3000 buffer tank, which is now dripping. There was a little discolouration round the fittings which started a fair while back, I assumed was just something from the insulation, but this is definitely water. Anyone else have issues with theirs? I remember saying...

    Ford 4000 Fuel Filler

I bought a new fuel cap because the existing one has "Remove Slowly" or similar written on the top, and because it seems not to let air into the tank like every other fuel filler I have come across, but the new one is just the same. Is there supposed to be a tank breather somewhere else?

    Water Abstraction Return Per Head

We have an abstraction licence and fill in our annual return on a calculated per head of stock figures. This is relatively simple as we do the same for Nitrogen because we are in an NVZ. Since last year we have added pigs to the mix and I cannot find a figure for consumption for outdoor pigs...

    Biomass Suppliers List and Woodsure

Ive just read through the latest BSL newsletter, and it seems to say, that some new RHI legislation coming into effect in April 2021 means that we have to now pay 500 quid to join woodsure. Are there any other options? We only supply ourselves so could drop our Producer/Trader registration and...

    White Scouring Lamb

We have a lamb that started scouring soon after it was born. Its twin is, and has remained healthy. It was treated with Pen and Strep, seemed better but still loose and white motions. For a couple of days it received live yoghurt and electrolytes mixed, and I have just seen it pass another white...

    Ford 4000 Help

Our old tractor refused to start back in the autumn, and has been parked up since, but now spring is n the air someone has suggested harrowing, so its in the workshop. Cranks fairly well, but not a wisp of smoke, so Ive taken the cover off the injector pump to make sure that its not the stop...

    Shelf Life of Brewers Grains

Because of a little diversification going on on the farm here, I will be receiving some brewers grains. Ive never had any dealings with them in the past, save walking past piles in bunkers on various farms through the years. Do they go off? How long are they safe to keep? Any hazards...

    Curious Fatigue Failure

This bolt has (I think) signs of fatigue and brittle fracture. I found it this morning in the bay where we keep hay and straw and I can't figure out where it might have come from so I thought I would share on TFF as a light hearted diversion because Peter the Foot Trimmer happened to mention...

    Cauliflower Ear

One of our rams has an inflated ear, he doesnt seem to be bothered by it, we can prod it etc without him reacting, there doesnt seem to be any obvious cause, ear tag is missing and no hole apparent. Any ideas about what it is and what should we do about it?
