How much ground are you talking including your winter crops which are not any good? Not all eggs in one basket and all that.

I know a couple of farms considering it as EA have been round and cubicle shed to parlour area and collecting yard is an issue. They are considering it possibly easier to stick a robot in the cubicle/feed shed than to mess around covering yards especially as the parlours in question are getting on.

@Happy hillbily i think it will probably go away to an extent once you turn out, but there will be a lag time then plan for next year's cubicle management. I would lime twice a day and well if your beds are not dry, ours are old and sound the same, it pays. Only one other suggestion going...

I do. Aside from the obvious problem that you will nearly always end up putting nutrients where they see not needed, if you actually look at a tanker and think that some people are driving 40 mile round trip to drop off what is basically a small puddle of watery muck it is madness.

Trouble is lots do the sums over every litre rather than the extra marginal litres produced from hauling that feed in. Anything can look OK if you stretch it over enough litres.

Storage won't solve that problem. Too many cows on too few acres, should never be allowed.

Always had ground limestone spread before. Anyone used granulated lime? What are the pro's and cons? I guess it is a more expensive product but surely there is a gain in being able to spread yourself when you want and ease of handling.
