Personally we have historical ryegrass and blackgrass in varying quantities.
Desnsity and difficulty seems to change each year !!!
Used luximo last season and not that much difference…
Just looking for thoughts on a standard program.
Morning
Presumably most are still planning on planting wheat in the next month or so.
With current prices and profitability what’s everyone’s thoughts on pre em choices and rates ?
cheers
Got my first samples back of group 2s today
Extase/siskin
12.1 %
287 hag
79 kg
moisture 14.3 (after drier)
been offered £23 premium on August feed wheat but I’ll leave this first 300 t in a shed.
Early drilled early varieties-simples
We’ve cut some Extase and Siskin.Just ready but ready and now in shed dried.
Good yields at 17% but the stuff I looked at last night before rain was due thinking I could grab a bit more was 22% and now looking ‘washed’ to say the least
Yes I think it has to be completely naturally ready.
So I presume dried naturally to a state to shed then get wet enough to create germination.
Some varieties will do this quicker than others !
Don’t think we are there yet here 🤞
Does glyphosate maybe help ?
Hi
We made some lovely June hay like everyone else I presume but left half our crop to bulk up as it’s old tired grass!!
Who else has hay still to cut with the weather forecast for the next 2 weeks ?
Hi All,
For those who use an agronomist to help with work load who’s got a rec for T3?
Its very dry and wheat of our sensible varieties here very clean (Siskin /Extase etc)
Is teb/prochloraz the general go to in this rusty weather? Will it be needed?
For those that prescribe for themselves...
Very true
its probably a none starter ,just me trying to reinvent things 😂
Although invariably I always end up drying a proportion of wheat but hardly ever dry barley
To be honest I’ve been watching some YouTube videos about the benefits of Hybrid barley and that it generally yields around .5t more than conventional so on that basis it got me thinking.
I only ever grow barley in a second cereal situation as conventional and usually yield around 3.25-3.6 tons...
Hi
Never grown hybrid barley and wondering in a first cereal position if the yields would be comparable but cost less to grow and be a better bet against grassweeds using lower N ,lower fungicide, possibly lower drying costs ?
what’s others thoughts ?
cheers
Asked a similar question yesterday
Siskin clean as a whistle like Extase here
Gleam is in its last year here.
fancied trying palladium to keep it all farmer friendly and group 2’s
I really like group 2’s for some reason (no science involved) and have always grown cordial,Siskin and recently Extase.
Farmer friendly varieties!
what’s the verdict and opinions on palladium ?
Cheers
