    Market carry and storing grain

I've had merchants try to roll grain contracts with no carry and other try to roll contracts for £1/month. I've refused these but think the true cost is more like £4/month. When you factor the cost to build and depreciate a store, cool grain and carry risk then there is a much bigger cost...

    Latitude Seed dressing

I'm reluctantly growing second wheats again this autumn. I test seed and try to avoid fungicidal seed dressings where possible. I was horrified to see the price of latitude but I'm not sure if I should really be using it? It would seem in a no-till situation and very early October drilling its...

    Ergot

Ergot seems to be a problem again this year. I've seen it mentioned that Boron deficiency can cause this and increased SDHI use (with the loss of CTL?) can contribute to Boron deficiency. Can anyone add to this? Doesn't seem a correlation between other factors like variety or cultivations?

    Export prices

I've just renewed my export price. Risen from 7p/kwh to 17.5p/kwh. With import costs going up drastically glad to see its going the same way.

    Too early for covers?

I've had some bare stubble for a couple of weeks now. The weather is too dry to drill any covers but anything I plant in the next few weeks will run to seed before the autumn and need to be destroyed? Should I wait until mid august or even later? Catch crop is usually mustard, linseed sunflower...

Export prices vs energy price cap

Are we all being had? We are paid a fixed price for our exported energy (RPI linked) but all of the energy companies are rapidly increasing prices as "the wholesale cost of energy" has risen sharply. We are dictated to about the price we are paid for exports but we should actually be choosing...

    KWS Feeris

A lot to like about this variety but is the royalty the same as with Wolverine where there is a second royalty payment which is probably more expensive than applying an insecticide if one wanted to?

    Claydon hybrid A Shares

The standard point for the claydon hybrid is the 7" A Share. I'm often thinking it should be the 5", possibly even the 4" as a standard setup. Easier to pull and less soil disturbance seem sensible to me? I don't buy the argument for competition... Any thoughts?

    Europolymer on asbestos

I've seen an advert for "euro polymers" It basically looks like they clean old asbestos roofs and spray with a new polymer layer and then guarantee for 20yrs. Anyone used this? Seems like a good idea but worried older roofs will just crumble when washed? TIA

    Claydon Hybrid slug applicator

Ive been caught out this year and feel the need to fit a slug pellet applicator to our mounted claydon hybrid. Can this apply pellets into the coulters or only via a spinning disc on top? What options are there to control via the RDS isobus screen?

    Frost intolerant covers

Im considering a winter cover of frost intolerant species. Likely to be buckwheat, phacelia, linseed etc The idea is to provide cover into winter but leave the field clear for spring drilling without the need for destruction. I find it essential on heavy clays to get the land to dry out ready...

    Lucerne

I want to add Lucerne into my over winter covers but have no experience with it. (Mainly for rooting ability) I'm a little concerned it is harder to kill and possibly wont add anything in the 6 month window. Any comments on lucerne please?

    Snow foam

Are the snow foam adapters for pressure washers a bit of a gimmick? They look good for washing machinery but not sure they’re any better than TFR soaking for a few mins?

    Expanding a solar system

What is the process to increase or alter the size of a system? Im considering adding extra solar or possibly a wind turbine. (I believe we could utilise inverters already on site as they are not all at capacity.) Is it another DNO application?

    Raspberry Pi ANPR Camera

Im looking to install an ANPR camera (ideally in a car) using a Raspberry Pi. There are several on the internet: https://magpi.raspberrypi.org/articles/anpr-car-spy-raspberry-pi I need it to scan a list of known number plates that I can update monthly. Ideally this would sound an alarm if it...

    Claydon Drill as a Hoe

I've seen the claydon hybrid used as a hoe in the spring... much like the system chameleon... Simply using the same machine but offset into the unseeded bands. Just wondering why or if this isn't done more? Lack of RTK uptake perhaps or is the drill too heavy to use in this way for regular...

    Glamping and flood zones

Looking to build a glamping site (cabin) along side a river which is obviously in a flood zone. And advice for flooding and planning issues? Building a house here would obviously be impossible but i'm hoping tourism/temporary accommodation will get us past this hurdle?
