Hello
Just wondering what the going rate is for standing grass. Specifically, I'm talking about non-arable fields you want to pass on to a contractor for baling.
How much do you receive per acre? Or do you get paid per bale they produce?
Hi everyone
New to farming and we are looking to relocate our muck heap (just horse muck).
What rules/factors do we need to consider when finding a new place for the muck heap? We know to avoid it being near a water supply or potential run-off into a water supply. Is there anything else we...
Does anyone here have experience of spreading sludge (treated/untreated) on their land? If so, is there anything I need to be aware of?
We're looking into this, primarily to help the grass grow, rather than using fertiliser.
Arable is not something I'm familiar with so hoping to learn off people from here.
Youtube videos make it look very seemless - combine cuts, straight into a trailer and then dumped into a grain store. But what can go wrong during harvest? What are the common difficulties you come across, other...
We have a rodent problem in our livery, eating feed and chewing through various things. What is the best way to resolve this?
Did originally looks at buying this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08WSWWK1H/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza?th=1 but was told by a pest controller that it will not be...
Just wondering what insurer everyone is using for their farm?
Specifically things like:
buildings & contents cover for outbuildings
public liability
tractor insurance
I'm looking at ours and thinking it's a bit steep but I'm concerned about going to a more mainstream insurer who does not...
We're looking to rent out 16 acres of ring-fenced pasture with good access to water. Ideally looking for a sheep farmer.
This is the first time we will have done this in a long time, so how much would you charge/expect to pay for something like this? Based in the North West, so we can't charge...
Hello
We have 30 acres of standing grass available for a haymaking/sileage because our current contractor is retiring. Land is located in the OL postcode area (Rochdale/Oldham). Ideally looking for someone who is ready to go this summer for cutting & baling. Usually get 200+ large round bales...
Looking to get a flail mower for the back of the tractor. Our tractor is only 80hp so no heavy gear please!
Mowing up to 60 acres (but not all in one day!)
What brands and models do you recommend?
Whats the best type of bike for riding on a farm? I'm talking ground that is a bit rough, hilly but mowable. I have no idea how to maintain a bike, so something low maintenance please.
Looking at purchasing a post driver
Unsure which type to go for. The one's that "push" the post in rather than a weight banging down on it I think would be preferable but who manufactures those? And what's the proper name for them?!
Ideally fits on a back of a tractor but would consider a hand...
Always wondered, do you "shake out" barley straw before baling it? Combines seem to spit it out in a nice row for a baler....do you try and dry it out even more or is it good to go?
Yes, no or depends?
Only asking because I never done arable and in an area where nobody else does !
Recently bought a very old motocross bike and it takes too much time before each ride to get it working.
What is a good bike/quad to get that is low maintenance and can sit in a shed for 6 months untouched but still work when I want it to?
Motocross bikes need too much TLC - e.g. oil changes...
When haylage is being made and several tractors are in a field at once, big holes are "found" in the field. Some can be 6ft deep and enough to fit two small cars in.
The fields are grass/grazing...no crops. The soil round here is heavy clay type stuff.
What is the cause of this?
Just wondering where we stand for using quads/motorbikes in fields with footpaths?
Specifically motocross bikes that aren't road worthy. Suppose you ride in a field that is yours but has public footpaths running through it - do I need to tax it? insure it? or not need anything because the field...
Does anyone have experience of front mounted mowers on bumpy ground?
The farm in question is quite hilly and uneven when driving over in a tractor. Would a trailed mower be better than a mounted front/rear?
Hello everybody!
I would like to see more hedges on my farm - specifically hawthorn, because the wooden posts we use often rot within 4-5 years, regardless of them being treated or not! Also think the hedges would last longer but I accept they need to be maintained regularly.
I'm looking to...
