    Long Compton abattoir

The small abattoir funding? When I spoke to them pre Christmas they were too big and handled too much livestock for that- which is laughable when you consider how small an abattoir it is.

    Long Compton abattoir

The owner of the site does not want to build houses there but the abattoir is struggling to keep up with the modern legislation so can’t really keep functioning as an abattoir as it is- the upgrading of infrastructure will be a struggle any new owners are going to have to deal with. It’s a...

Leave bull in with cows or not?

Leave the bull in for 9 weeks then take him out- I never leave a bull on its own, we're a college so we need friendly bulls. Always leave him with a fattening bullock or two for company year around so he's easier to handle. Once cows are scanned for spring calving (they're scanned in January)...

Confessions of the Sheep/Beef Cattle/Pig Addicts

I think it depends what you’re wanting to do- lots of people will cross mules once for replacements (as said usually texel or Suffolk) so they’re 50% mule, 50% terminal. SSSI grazing

Can be useful that type of ground as it allows you to rest other pasture or outwinter stock for longer. We have some that means we don’t have to house a group of cattle. However useful it is though it shouldn’t be costing you any money in rent- the grass will not be very productive plus there...

    Sheep attestation

I guess it depends what you thought you'd get out of it? The funding stream is designed solely to pay for the vet's time/worming/bloods etc. so there shouldn't be any money left over.
