    Variable rate N

We have been N-sensor since 2004. In OSR it's a given when used in "absolute mode". Less N more yield. In cereals in the early days it did a good job of evening up fields and without a doubt kept crops standing. About 4-8 years ago I was starting to see less of an effect in cereals and was...

    Central tyre inflation systems

    Draper vs vario combine header

In a standing wheat crop on a nice afternoon the standard wider header will have more output. In the same situation but at ever end of the day they will be similar. At the very end of the day the draper will go for as long as you or combine want too. In anything laid the draper is without a...

    Draper vs vario combine header

It was always the issue with the original draper type headers. Its now not a problem. far from it. Fantastic bits of kit, what ever the colour. The new generation drapers that are coming through now and have the next few years have a deeper belts too. So make feed in tall crops even better.

Wheat harvest it will be Combine, Chaser, Unimog and Artic lorry. Will add more lorries if needed. The...

    Combine and tractor replacement policy

We are planning to also try and get 1950ha through a 8900. We test for losses regularly with the Bushel Plus drop pan, this gives a very accurate reading. anything up to 1% is allowed. We also have a very good farmer next door with a full CTF combine that will help if needed. Cost wise seems the...

    Combine telematics???

Yield maps a very useful for tramline trials across the farm. They tell you a lot more than anything off farm. Telematics help me get a true cost of production, rather than relying on paper that get lost or not filled out properly. Logistics is a good one for me. Helps plan fuel, even tells me...

    Combine telematics???

Or an automated way of recorded keeping, Every time a machine goes into and out a field it records what it did and for how long. So I can then go to that field and it will tell me what it's had done. Helping logistics planning fuel, seed and fert, yield maps the list goes on! not just telling...

Is It Time To Ban Maize

I haven't read the whole thread. We grow a big chunk of maize on the heaviest of soils. It's down to set up and management. We grow a lot of 150-180 FAO varieties (every 10 FAO is roughly a week later). They would be classed as super early. Started this year the second week of September...
