I drilled yesterday- it's light chalky ground. Just spray off and top then drilled with tine drill. 170kg/ha grows weedy but not bothered - nothing that can't be controlled in future. Bg doesn't like it as no fertiliser and not heavy. Haven't noticed rats but have a good population of buzzards...
Hurrels 2yr mix has lots more in it than boston and is simikar price for 20ac £54ish? Ac - cheapest would be mix your own - 70% is spring cereal should be able to buy off neighbour from heap? 20ac need 400kg I think? £150 max I'd think then buy 20kg of kale mustard fodder raddish chicory millet...
I have 4ha of unharvested cereal in CS that's been in same place for 4yrs - spray off in march and redrill directly in. Haven't had problems with any difficult weeds - loads of thistles that I don't worry about. I let my sheep out on it in feb to encourage any seeds to be eaten or stamped down...
IT Skills - lack of WIFI at grainstores. Casual labour all needing specific apps on phone - older generation being excluded due to lack of IT skills in an industry with an older workforce (this will change but not yet?
Cost to Hauliers - probably time and inconvenience when IT doesn't work but...
I hope you are right but think they already count us as in elms and as aim is 70% farmers - they are going to up other rates to induce others into new schemes knowing HLS farmers are trapped anyway ☹️ I do hooe I'm wrong- having meeting with NE advisor soon regarding this.
Is it an all arable field already? Am wondering how current grassy corners that have been coded as PG01 within arable fields can be changed so whole field options can work - assume a RLE1
Yes that's my understanding. I have an agreement that started in dec 23 but I am not establishing until autumn 24 - I did a few ha as a trial last autumn but my wheat has failed due to laying wet so hoping next autumn will be an improvement
I was told by RPA helpline that you can have multiple agreements as long as there is no double funding. I have started one agreement and aim to start another next year when CS finishes. Certainly has let me do a second one in principle already
My neighbour had this very recently- inspecting invoices for claim for 170m of stock fencing 6yrs ago. RPA had already had copies of invoices with claim but wanted to inspect fence and see that invoices had been kept as per instructions to keep invoices for 7yrs.
She was fined for having an...
Unfortunately I couldn't attend and am currently half a mile from zone but know many in it who will be lambing by February which sounds a nightmare if still so restricted - surely once tested animals should be able to move within zone
Was told yesterday that some sheep outside zone had been found positive - haven't seen anything official so hoping this is just worried gossip. Am less than 1km from zone - really feel for everyone inside at moment- must be very stressful.
I'd agree try it but pretty sure you can't. Not even sure now how you can change pp to arable if ploughed up. Can you just change land cover? Will this change land use classification? Could try changing pp to tg01 on cover and see if it works - unlikely I guess
