Cost of a 1000 ton grain store

Not only the above but a vermin hotel. No end of hiding places for them. We are just starting to clear out our old store. 60 years or so in place, and fine when there was lots of labour on the farm. However it is all ladders and pits, and the machinery is starting to wear out with plenty of...

The RPA grant funding stupid questions time

We have applied for 2 things totalling more than £25000 worth of grant. Had an email asking for a bank statement to show funds, or proof of a loan. As said above we are not approved for the grant yet and months away from buying it. However sent in a copy of our bank statement, pretty healthy...

    Straw/Stubble Rake

Thanks for the input. I will probably look for just a straw rake and try and use it on the smaller tractor. Can always go over with a set of 12m rolls afterwards.

    Straw/Stubble Rake

Looking at getting a rake for this autumn, using the FETF grant. It looks like some of them come with discs on the front as an option. It will be working in front of a tined direct drill and as well as spreading out the residual straw I am interested in the fact that it may chop the straw up a...

The Wildlife Trust: Dial 999 if you see anyone (neighbour or farmer) trimming a hedge after Thursday

I look forward to a visit. I have someone coming out on Monday to cut a roadside hedge. Their trimmer broke and so could not do it this week! I will check that over the weekend a bird has not made a nest! :)

    Fuel price tracker

Possibly. I did inquire when we were first looking, but they did not offer a BP card. I think we have about 5 BP garages in an 8 mile radius. The only different garage in that radius is a Murco garage. Also our pricing will be very different to yours in Aberdeenshire.

    Fuel price tracker

Depends what brand station you have near you. We are surrounded by BP and so have a BP card. There maybe others that might be slightly cheaper, but there is no point going out of my way to fill up to save .5p!Last weeks price was 122.06

    Fuel card

We have been using a card since just before Christmas. Average price from 7 weeks 119.20. All ex VAT for Diesel. Pretty much beats bulk buying prices. This is a BP card. Used to bulk buy and have a tank on the farm, but not using so much Diesel now so experimenting with a fuel card. Also we...

KV TS evo or Kuhn megant

No experience of the Megant, but have got on very well with our KV TS drill. 10 years old or so, drilled 450 acres per year 6m 150Hp to pull. Have tried a bit of DD with it and had mixed results with it. It is not designed for it though. Always had good crops from it in a min till/plough...
