    The working class

This thread reminds me good assessment by Niall Ferguson, British historian, on “why nothing works, not populism, not centrism” https://twitter.com/nfergus/status/1071797287620210688?s=21

    No deal a certainty .

Sadly, we are all being played with three word sound bites, like take back control. If we lost control, why were we allowed to exit the EU club? Why did we have Veto vote? Why... why. On the fishing business, only communist government is involved in fishing, most free-world countries sell...

    Belarus ...

As name indicates, Belarus is ‘white russia’ while to the east is ‘red russia’. Genetically, close cousins, intellectually further apart. Similar to Ukraine, which was old CCCP fighter-jet design hub, Belarus is a software development hub. All very convenient arrangements, if can be controlled...

    Belarus ...

Depends how far back you look, but I am told that if we go back a 1000 years, all Europeans are effectively related through conquest, arranged marriages, and regular ‘rape and pillage’ expeditions. I have a genographic map of my paternal DNA, since biological Adam 60,000 years back. It is...

    Belarus ...

Pathetic regional response, is leaving a wide-open barn door for the thugs from Moscow to help the last dictator in Europe. Nobody wants another Crimea, but what is being done to prevent it? Zippo!

    Belarus ...

Sadly, Europe is just talking but not willing to help directly. Impose sanctions, block the trade, apply pressure to force the outcome. If Belarus wasn’t land-locked we would see CN offering to help, HK style.

Ian Botham to be made a Lord

Sadly, some charities operate on a very high admin to target-beneficiary ratio. Fancy offices, business-class travel to shake hands, kiss babies and cut ribbons, often consumes large chunk of funds intended for the people/animals/... in distress.

    Ethnic minorities in agriculture

Fascinating... please post the Naval history lesson, it’s part of your heritage.

The ‘I’ve had it and survived’ thread

Our stats have sick-bias, as only people with symptoms are tested properly. To balance it, I report every day. I started when I had symptoms and I continue reporting since I shook it off. The data goes to Kings College and NHS! Help slow the spread of #COVID19 and identify at risk cases...

https://www.mopo.de/hamburg/rechtsmediziner--ohne-vorerkrankung-ist-in-hamburg-an-covid-19-noch-keiner-gestorben--36508928 Interestingly... no one in Hamburg died of Covid alone... they all had pre-existing conditions. Covid did finish them off! So look after your health and immune system, we...

I have travelled fair amount and I love good local beef steak, 500g if available. My unbiased [emoji39] ranking order is: 1. South American 2. South African 3. North American 4. Australian 5. British I am not talking imported by Waitrose meat, I am talking about locally grown and served chunk of...

So who will feed Britain now?

Brilliant! Great to see farmers doing direct business on-line. I must see if there is a market in my part of the woods.

So who will feed Britain now?

I see your point TC, many people are not happy with politics, but polarising nations, separating countries, putting-up trade barriers is harmful to most of us. Unless we are happy with local trade and shrinking economy, which I am not. CV-19 is playing economic havoc around the world, why would...

So who will feed Britain now?

Yes of course, sadly that is true. Ag industry is being sacrificed for the sake of greater autonomy. The question remains, who stands to benefit? Not the farmers.
