Probably just the chipping guys. Chippies in Glasgow have not used piper for years, 10 years plus. They want a chip that lasts in the box with no effort to fry. The grower wants profit too, high input needs very high output. What was your super duper seed called again?

What variety would you suggest then? Piper is so flexible and ticks boxes for many outlets, I would have thought more piper will be grown at the expense of controlled varieties
