    Wheat after Spring Barley

I have used this in rotation for years, it is the highest margin spring crop for us and the best by far at bg control. There is, apparently a take all risk but not seen any issues yet. Always applied muck/biosolids pre wheat which probably hides any issues, wheat herbicides generally deal with...

    Wheat drilling

Avadex is apparently the better option in the dry, funnily enough i have trialled applying from the drill on two fields and sealing in with the rolls? Seedbeds here are always worked quite fine early to suck up any rain better so moisture is good, drilling at 325 seeds now shifting up to 350...

    Wheat drilling

ps we used to apply pre-em but it was too hard on the crop and could not legally get enough active on to do any good! knocked early vigour and rooting hence the crop was not competitive enough

    Wheat drilling

Last year was the only year i struggled with quality 80% ok 20% went as feed but i suppose that is the risk you take

    Wheat drilling

I must say my experience on heavy land is that ploughed and levelled when dry in August/early September it stays in good shape and will drill beautifully in the spring regardless of rainfall. About 6 years ago i put home relentless blackgrass into continuous spring crops (3x spring barley, beet...

    Wheat drilling

Just a question and not trying to be clever, if bg is such an issue and seems to be ruling everyones decisions. Why are you growing winter crops? Even drilling in Nov/Dec does not solve the issue and the spend on herbicides will still be £120/ha +. Why not switch to spring cereals and get on...

    Black grass in Spring Barley

400 seeds in January 550 in March, the other problem with a punchy pre-em is that it knocks the vigour out of the crop and prevents it getting quickly competitive. You might give the BG a hangover but return for spend is very poor

    Black grass in Spring Barley

I have stopped using pre-em on spring barley you just cant get enough active on to do any good, as for post em 0.2 Axial for wild oats is all that it gets. I have invested the money in high seed rates, competition is certainly working well on keeping it in check

    Trace element transfer

If you are using a few different types set them up on a platform in a row and make up a 2" line manifold so that you can blend to one outlet. manifold is very easy to put together yourself

Pushing The Limits Of The Barley

The CCC/Terpal programme is always the most effective as you avoid the bounce back post GS33 its a bit like gently pumping the brakes all the way down the line. Barley will bounce back even worse following Moddus for some reason?

    Magnesium

Have you tested the plant for deficiency? our soils are naturally low in Mg but does not always effect the crop. i have been able to adjust any issues with 2L of Folex Mg at very little cost, SAP testing again at high demand periods in the growing season to check further requirements.

Major Sugar Beet Contractor & Haulier in Administration

No doubt and they can fill their boots. Again it comes back to years when the soil is so hard that inadequate or old tech cannot get the beet out of the ground or the other end of the scale when it is so wet that you end up with nothing but soil in the heap, poorly tipped heaps and a mess...
