Volunteer OSR in a herbal ley

Putting some MOP on a couple herbal leys this afternoon and there's quite a few volunteers mainly behind the combine. It's two years ago that it was in OSR. What to do about it? Top them as they are coming up to flower? Would rolling put them quiet? I want to mow the fields for silage ideally.

Resetting the stops on a roller door.

I had a repair done on a roller door recently I'm pretty happy with that but the automatic stop when opening and shutting are not functioning either at all or in the wrong places, I'm not sure. The doors about 40 years old. Is there a method? My father thinks it's about moving the chain a...

Delinked payment information from the RPA

Received this email yesterday. I guess we will still have to fill in land use codes on this otherwise how will SFI work? So , how will it be simpler? Currently can't claim some options as my land use are based on what was in the parcels in May 23 and not now?

    Companion cropping in wheat.

Any ideas what might survive a pre em on wheat? OSR volunteers may suffice on some but what else? Is there anything or do we have to risk missing the pre em?

    Food inflation

More news on the telly about food Inflation and supermarkets wading in announcing millions of pounds worth of food cuts. Meanwhile, Milk up 28%, cheese up 38% and eggs up 29%. I understand cheese is lagging behind timewise but why isn't the NFU banging on about farm Gate prices down to pre war...

    Lining a valley gutter

Anybody used this for lining a valley gutter? I'm going to replace the roof sheets on a couple of buildings with a valley gutter but don't really want to replace the gutter even though it leaks one end. https://roofzone.co.uk/products/copy-of-industrial-gutter-liner

    Vane setting on amazone zav

Anybody know offhand the vane settings for origin 46% urea and also perhaps 40N 14S origin urea that would suit my ZAV 2600 V3 discs. 12 43 on my spreader app on one type of urea. 14 46 on another. Similar I guess.

    Red clover silage bales.

I've been making red clover silage for a couple of years now and I am finding that there's always a black mucky covering on the outside of the bales. Why is this? I try to make it fairly dry so it's never too wet, so do I need to put more layers of wrap on them?

    Supermarkets and fuel

RAC are calling out supermarkets this morning claiming that they're only passing on 3p out of the retail drop of 22ppl in diesel, petrol is similar. I suppose inflation is easy to hid behind but are supermarkets in particular going to be increasingly found out? And what as customers can we do...

    Tipping grain outside

I haven't got space inside for some oats. It's barely ready to combine but don't really want a heavy thunder shower to flatten it. Any good tipping outside before going into central store? Never done it before but have heard it said that it doesn't really hurt in the short term.

    100 hr services

Just been billed labour and parts for a 100hr service on my JCB handler. A quick greasing, waxing the boom and blow out air filters. 200 quid before VAT. Does this happen much? It's such a pointless service I wouldn't have booked it if I knew. I thought they would change the hydraulic filter...

    Wheat, chems and cover crops.

Planning chemical strategy with the agromonist this afternoon and it seems to be a nightmare planning grass weed control with following crops. I've direct drilled wheat after grass and needs a tidy up for grass weeds. Normally Othello or hatra or the such will do it but because I want to plant a...

    Direct drilling Winter Wheat now

Most people are drilled up I expect but has anyone got any to do or done it in the past? I've got a field I want to plant and the window is open until mid February but we're in a good dry spell now. It's not quite dry enough yet I think, but do I risk it soon? I didn't plant it in the autumn...

    Cement fibre roof sheets

Looking to re-roof a shed next year. Anybody heard of any big rises in relevant materials next year? Thinking it might be an idea to buy the sheets now. One building company that I have used before wasn't much help when I asked.
